Quick question: What is the factory thread pitch/size on the Norc M14 muzzle?

Like the title says. I recently grabbed a newer (month or two old) M14 SHORTY from Norinco.

I am looking to get a Socom style gas sight, and a muzzle brake.

Once I remove the flash hider/castle nut (OMG PAIN IN THE A$$), I was just curious, what is the factory pitch/size of the muzzle threading, so that I can order a muzzle brake in advance!

Thank you!

It's an oddball metric thread. Does someone make a brake that threads onto the castle nut thread? If so, it would be specifically for m14's, and likely chinese one'. I've hard of using the GI castle nut on a chinese barrel. Apparently its close enough.

Friend of mine works in a machine ship, and I have a piece of stainless steel laying around the same size I'd be using for a brake.... so I might have him make me one from scratch instead, if it proves too hard to find the right thread!

If I knew the exact thread, that's be great... at least I know it's metric now! :D Thanks!

Have you tried using a thread pitch gauge? They're rather cheap.

Yea, I will do that as I have a whole set of gauges... but I am having the TOUGHEST time getting the factory setup/flash hider OFF.... Anyone have a good alternative for castle nut pliers? I can't afford to buy a tool, just to take off a castle nut ONCE.

Since I don't have it off yet, would be good to know it, so I can see what my options are for brakes in the mean time :p

I measure a Norinco castle nut thread as 15mmx0.75

I tried to come up with an inch equivalent for my lathe, and you can get it close, but nothing is perfect in threads per inch.
