A Friend has a Bergman semi auto pistol(looks like a Mauser Broom Handle )He has been ordered to sell it or deactivate it by the CFC it is registered but prohibited.Does this have collectors interest and what are they worth.I would hate to see it welded up if someone is looking for one.Graham

The Bergman is an interesting looking pistol.
It would be of interest to someone who collects old prewar pistols.
As to the value, no idea, only ever seen them in pictures, never in person.

I am confused...I take it that the Bergmann Bayard is classed as prohibited because it's barrel length is an "extremely short" 102mm

If the barrel is removeable then he can hand that part over for destruction and the get a new longer barrel made so he can keep it...then again it would lower the value of the gun dramatically.

Somebody chime in here and let me know if the above is true in regards to prohib class firearms

Ask your buddy how much he wants for it.
Replacing the barrel destroys any collector value, and putting a new, $300 dollar barrel (including 'smithing costs) on a $150 pistol, just so you can keep it, is a pretty personal decision.

That said, I'm 12(6) and might be interested, have him send me a picture.

Just did some checking.
If it's a model 1910 then it is prohib due to barrel length, 4 inches...
With a mag capacity of 6 or 10 , most likely in 9mm Bayard.
The weight is 36oz, so 2.25 pounds.
In the Blue book of Gun values, for a 10% cond one is about 225-260 US, for a 100% model it's 1300-1500.
Mind you this is prices in the US for a 1910 commercial, or 1910 Danish contract.

My friend Pierre Turcotte in Bromont, Quebec is a gunsmith and he had parts for one of those pistols as I recall. He can be reached at Pierre65@aol.com or phone at 1 450 535-2667. Alex.
