newbie here. I am prepping my 30-06 brass. measuring case length. If I trim some should I trim them all? even the ones under max length?

thanks

If you are going to crimp them then, yes, they should all be trimmed to the same length (the ones that are less than the 'trim to' length, would be dealt with separately). If you are not crimping, and in a bolt gun you probably will not be, then only the ones that exceed the maximum length (according to the book) need to be trimmed. Measure them after sizing too, of course.

As woodlotowner said.
I'm anal.
I measure my precision rifle's actual chamber neck length, & then keep brass to .010" under that max length. The cases that measure up to .005" shorter in length than norm., they get included with that batch of long brass. The rest is segregated until it grows longer(which may take a few firings). I don't crimp bolt gun reloads, so equal case length is not needed, nor has a few thou. proved to be important at the 1/2 MOA level.
Always, measurement and/or trimming ... is after sizing.

It won't hurt a thing OP, if you trim the whole batch back a few thou. shorter.

Trim them all to the same length - that way they will all grow at the same rate, allowing a few reloads before needing trimming again. Otherwise you will have to check for length after each firing.

Cosmic has a good point, but I just wait for the shorter ones to 'catch up' to the point where I do a mass trimming. Mostly because I have never owned a batch of brass where each case 'grows' at the same rate. Having said this, any excuse to spend more time tinkering on the bench is good...
