Hey Ryan (or anyone who has experience with UPS). I emailed you yesterday, but I probably misspelt my email address again.

Anyways- I was just wondering if UPS can safe drop ammuntion?
I understand why they couldn't, just thought I'd ask.

I think it's a requirement for a signature. Do you want the neighbours kid to pick up your ammo? This is protection for the seller and buyer.

I have a problem with UPS always delivering to my house between 4-6pm (when I'm at work- work afternoons). All my requests for "AM delivery" are always ignored and I have to post a letter on my door to leave it at the depot for pickup. I don't like UPS, but that's the only carrier SFRC uses. If you want good prices for ammo at SFRC, you're stuck with UPS.

Actually, if you want ammo at all from SFRC, you're stuck with UPS. :p

Not that I have a problem with UPS, its just that I work nights til 8am.
I suppose I could check the ETA before I leave work, and adjust my alarm accordingly, or not go to bed at all.

That- or can I arrange it through SFRC to leave the package at the depot, and I can come and pick it up.
And by depot, I'm assuming you mean The UPS Store, correct?

Signature upon delivery should be required.

And for ST1264, in my dealings with UPS you will find they will deliver when you want if you do NOT accommodate them by going to the depot to pick up if they don't deliver when you want, and have the package sent back to the sender. They will then have to answer to their customer why the order wasn't delivered and then they will have to eat the cost when it ships back to you. If you tell them to ship for delivery before 11:00 and they don't, don't accept the delivery. I did this many times with my dealings with them and pretty quickly they start to pay attention to the delivery times.

Drivers have specific routes. If they have businesses in their area they usually get deliveries first. They will cover high density business areas and then maybe reload the truck to do some more in town before heading out to the suburbs to do residential deliveries. I bet your instructions aren't even read by the driver until they are walking up to your door in the late afternoon.

At least here in my town Purolator has the contract for delivering UPS, :) wayyy better than the UPS guy that would come to town a couple times a week.

Believe me, I've argued with UPS on the phone when I was up to my 3rd delivery attempt. They don't schedule deliveries. Told them I'll be home until 1pm, put a note on my door. Just got delivery notices for 4pm-6. Doesn't matter. My area of town must be last on their route. I just pick it up as I'd rather not wait.

I've tried everything, they just deliver between 4-6pm and whether I list it on the order for AM delivery/my door/on the phone, it doesn't work. Only when I'm at work, it's being delivered.

Drivers don't care if it goes back to the sender, less work for them.

I picked up the last 2 just to save myself the hassle, at the actual sorting plant-5min drive from my house. I pick up and order large quantities so I don't have to waste too much of my gas.

When purchasing from the states, if the seller insists on UPS, I don't order. They charge brokerage fees...

Thanks for the info. Just ordered my ammo, and sent a little note to Ryan, if he can arrange with UPS to have them deliver anytime after 10am. Shouldn't be too hard, no?

I do a lot of mail order, just received a package from each, today:

Canada Post: 10:30am
CanPar: 11:30am

I've got FedEx packages in the AM, DHL, everyone except UPS.

What I have done when ordering ammo from SFRC is have the order delivered to the local UPS store and then I pick it up there at a time that is convenient for me. They charge $5 for that service but I have found it to be worth it to avoid a trip to the UPS depot. (You do have to speak to the UPS store before directing the order to them otherwise they won't accept it.)

Pickup was free for me at the depot, closest UPS store is farther away for me. My only option, as they only deliver in the PM to me.

yea i've noticed ups leaves residential until the end, fortunately for me the ups store is only 5minutes away and they dont charge me anything so its not bad. The issue I had with ups is that when i went to pick up my m305 and 500rounds of 308 the guy didn't even bother checking my ID, he was perfectly content with me having the little slip they stuck to my door which anyone could have just taken in. I offered him my ID but apparently he "trusts me" didnt really force the issue, none of their business as to what my package is. If I made a big deal out of it because of the package content, my next package might not be there.

they've never asked for a signature, i just open my door and it is there, or i come home from work and its sitting on my front door.

They arnt suppose to but that doesnt stop them from doing it to me. Said right on the box DO NOT SAFE DROP. I came home one afternoon and a box of ammo was on my door step

I buy ammo from sfrc many times. The package always says do not safe drop. However this notation is always ignored by the UPS driver. It is always waiting for me on the door step. That's because UPS delivers at around 4-5pm, and I'm always working.

When the driver leaves ammo/firearms at the doorstep and the neighbour kid gets a hold of it, there may be problems.

UPS here has never left a package without a signature. All shipments from SFRC have said DO NOT SAFE DROP AND SIGNATURE REQ'D.

I have to bring this up with UPS.. Again. Every UPS package I get is always left at the door. Which is bad for many reasons mentioned in previous posts. The only time they don't leave something at the door is when I owe duty and brokerage (which is extremely high, but that's another rant).

You have a lazy driver, that's all. Let the company know that a firearm/ammunition was left without getting the proper signature and see what happens. I guess it would be more convenient to leave it on the doorstep, but it definitely wouldn't be safe or secure for the buyer or seller.

If a crook was to follow a lazy UPS driver around and see him drop everything on the porch, it would be a pretty rewarding experience for him.

Ammo/firearms should never be safe dropped.
