I've been fiddeling with my new Quickload software. It gives a lot of information I have yet to quite understand.

When selecting a potential - pistol barrel length, bullet, COAL, powder combination, how important or desirable is it to achieve a 100% powder burn before the bullet exits the barrel?

Would you load differently for a compensated barrel?

Thanx

Speaking generically, if you have a very fast powder that burns all the powder within the length of the barrel, you will reach maximum pressure before reaching the velocity potential of that bullet weight. The proper powder will be slower burning and will produce higher velocity, despite the fact that a portion of the powder burns past the muzzle. If the powder is too slow, pressure will be low, velocity will be low, and muzzle flash and muzzle blast will be high. You need to balance the powder burn rate and the bullet weight. Often, the correct powder is the one that fills 95% of the capacity, and is suitable for that weight of bullet.
