Quiet .22 ammo

I've only ever tried remington subsonic. But they're plenty quiet - All you can really hear through ear plugs is the click of the gun. I had to check the shell to make sure it actually did something.

CCI sub sonics through 3/8"plywood at 20yds,both longs and shorts and no louder than a burrito fart.
 LOL! That's funny! I'm going to have to do some tests though to compare burrito farts to other farts.

When I was at the range last Sunday I tested some of the CCI CB Shorts in my CZ 452. They were very quiet. Not sure if they were that accurate as I wasn't shooting at paper. Chonographed speeds were in the 530 to 630 fps range IIRC (don't have the numbers infront of me at the moment), well short of the 720 fps listed on the box though.

You could shoot the CCI CBs all day with no ear protection at all.

All I shoot is either standard velocity or subsonic in 22 LR ; without a doubt PMC moderaters are the quietest LR with CCI subsonic's second and Remington subsonic's third. Years ago I shot some Winchester subsonics that I liked but I never had a chance to compare them to the other brands. I find that the CCI are the cleanest burning and the remingtons are the worst.

CCI Mini Mag after using the NASTINOSE tool (left) shown with a standard Mini Mag for comparison (right). The huge hollow point created by the NASTINOSE leads to greatly improved killing power.

I found the CCI CB Longs through my .22 bolt action rifle to be much quieter than the PMC Moderators. And the Moderators smelled awful!

Your absolutely right, except that the original question was: What are the quietest 22 long rifle ammo ?

the CB shorts if you can find them are the quietest I've ever fired. You hear the bolt/firing pin strike and then the impact at the other end. (my .22 CO2 air pistol is much noisier). A buddy of mine has european Colibri (brand name? i believe the term refers to ammo with no powder) which are smaller than the CB shorts, have a tiny conical bullet, and are even quieter.

I have used cb shorts in my target pistol.. they almost cycle the action.. well sometimes.. It may work better on a hot day. still loud but that is from a pistol..
I have a bunch of aguila sss.. does not like my 10/22 but I am working on it.. I have even found someone who makes a faster twist rat e for this massive bullet. that is on my wish list.

I am curious where you can get it also.

I agree CBs are very quite. I think they are quite a bit more quiet than 22shorts. (If my memory serves me correctly)

the quietest 22 ammo i have ever fired was called BB caps they were shorter than a 22short and the bullet was a simple 22cal round ball I belive they were made by imperial ammunition, the noise from the striker was louder than the report. a simple list of ammo i have tried from quietest to loudest bb cap,cb cap,cb long, rem sub sonic, standard vel, high vel, hyper vel, stinger. hope this helps. ps if you are going to hunt with quiet ammo i would suggest nothing lower than rem subsonic they will kill rabit sized animals humainley. try em all and have :) fun:) .
