you can just buy CCI CBs, in either short or long, at just about anywhere that stocks ammo. the loudest sound is the bullet smacking against the target.

why is it strange?
CBs represent the vast majority of rounds i fire from my .22s.
for pest control they are all thats needed, theyre nice and quiet so no hearing protection necessary, they are accurate and CCI ammo is consistently high quality. around the home or cabin i always use CBs.
i like my .22s to be quiet - with CBs, a long-barreled .22 will be quieter than most air rifles.
if noise is not a consideration, then i will usually be shooting my .223 instead.
through break-in, polishing and tuning ive gotten my 10/22T to cycle with .22 subsonics (target ammo) - which are the minimum that will reliably cycle the action. they are generally more accurate than the supersonics.
but you can shoot CB Longs in a 10/22 if you manually cycle the action - much like a bolt-action.... however it really is better to buy a bolt-action if you plan on shooting CBs and subsonics a lot. if you want complete ammo versatility then i would highly recommend going bolt-action, youll even be able to fire shorts and acorns.

i highly doubt a semi would cycle CBs unless you completely modified it to do so (im not a gunsmith but perhaps this could be accomplished by significantly lightening the bolt and polishing everything to a mirror shine, although figuring out the proper bolt timing would be a nightmare and it seems like a retarded amount of work to pour into something when you can just buy a more appropriate rifle to begin with), in which case it would probably be damaged if you fired a full power round.

What the #### is with morons questioning why I would ask about semi-auto or bolts that fire the CB without issue? It's just a question, either you can answer it or not. Who gives a #### what the intention of my next acquisition is. I may purchase a semi-auto or bolt. Just feeling out what my needs are in contrast with functionality of rifles I'm in the market for.
acorns...lol I bought a pump Remington 572 just to have that same versatility of ammo choice and it can cycle the next round quicker than a bolt but not as pin-point accurate. Just another option.
Lever gun man. Most of them can feed and shoot anything. Get one with a nice long barrel and it will be very quiet indeed.
I have seen a kit for the 10/22 for feeding and cycling the light rounds. I can't remember who makes it though.

P.S. When I feed my airrifle heavy pellets (above 25gr) it gets pretty darn quiet, about the same as CBs.

i think these are the oldskool 'CBs', but we always just called them acorns because they have an acorn on the base, and well... they kindof look like em too

, anyhow.......just remember that some levers acutally are .22LR only (and they'll even have difficulty with CB Longs...), while some new pumps are effectively .22LR only as well.....Just like your questions are not unreasonable
, it's also possible that people here are truly just trying to be helpful.....Well in rimfire circles it does sound very odd that a fellow would buy a rifle based on its ability to shoot Longs, a bullet that very few people make any more?

I shoot cci cb shorts frequently out of my rossi pump 22 same as a taurus 62. Or my browning 22 pump. Both feed 22 short and longs or long rifles fine. I use them for pest control target and squirrel hunting. Accuracy is fine once you get them sighted in at least with open sights. I also have a old target 22 that is martini action and i think these are more quiet than most airguns. Don't let the low velocity fool you!
