Some posters on another thread were talking as if the "Subsonic" and the "Quiet" were two completely different cartridges, and I wanted to know if/how they were different, or if they are one in the same, just with different names. Now I get it. That's all.

I believe so. I have found CCI CB Longs ultra quite in my rifle. Again, be aware of ricochets, I was hit with one but it bounced off the back wall of the shooting bay so had little energy when it finally hit me. I was shooting a hard plastic reactive target cube.

Hey, thx for that info. I was not going to post the foregoing clip but, what with all this talk about ricochettes, I thought this might "hit home" for some folks (in a manner of speaking). PC WARNING-- NOT FOR SQUEEMISH TYPES. This poor chap gets it in the forehead by his own 20mm "low velocity" round. (It's very quiet!) Note the angle and material used in his backstop. It's a good lesson for us all, and enough to cause shooters to consider what soft dirt berms are all about. OK, don't try to say I didn't warn you, and "take heed"...

No powder charge, eh? Yeah, the two rounds in question are both "subsonic", given that Mach is ~1100fps. The CCI Standard LR zips along just under that threshold at 1070fps,
whereas the lowly "Quiet LR" loafs downrange at a measly 710. 1 in 10 steel cans refused penetration, and hitting 2l pop bottles filled with water were just no fun at all--they just
sprung a leak and the water pead out without drama :0 | But it's more powerful than a pellet gun and should do for the squirells. >Pop< Otherwise it's going to be the .308
(kidding!).

CB longs seem to make the same "bang" as Quiet 22s do. They both advertise 710fps but the Quiet 22s are a 40 grain long rifle and the CB is a 29 grain long. I think that would make the Quiet 22 have more energy right? Both work in my Papoose when manually cycled. They just make a "click" from my 27 inch barrel Cooey 75.

40 grains vs. 29 grains at the same speed (muzzle)? 40gr will certainly have more energy at muzzle. (speedxmass)

CB actually comes from cap and ball, suggesting (as mentioned) just priming compound slings them. I think modern CB's have a touch of powder beyond the primer, but haven't pulled any apart... Will rip some ammo down for science when I get a chance.

you might wish to try winchester super x .22 subsonics.
they are quiet and recycle very well in a ruger 10/22
but not many shops stock them

They now have the quiet hollow points as well. 40 gn . I picked up a box but haven't had a chance to try them out.

Try different brands of the subsonics to see which is quieter. It's not all about dB, tone is a big part and some barrel/subs combinations are quieter than others due to a shift towards a tone that's less recognizable as a firearm report.

Oh, and be mindful for ricochets.

I only have time to pull the one (Remington CB), and it has more than just priming compound. Most of the powder from the shell can be seen piled by the empty case. It was trickier than I thought getting that bad boy apart! Will rip some more open when time permits.



Although not able to cycle a semi, the Remington CB's are significantly louder than the CCI short, and long.

Here is an older picture of some flobert ammo. These are very quiet, but I haven't seen any of it in ages.


I'm sure I have some Remington subsonic here somwhere, and will pull one apart.

I have my DAR pretty close to reliably cycling the Rem CeeBee's. The design of this bullet is just begging to be used on grouse in areas where quiet is beneficial. I also tested them for accuracy at one point and found them very consistent in my gun.

Not sure if anybody mentioned it but its worth noting that the quiet are 710 fps but with a 40 grain bullet where as most are 29 grain. That makes a substantial differene with impact.

I have my DAR pretty close to reliably cycling the Rem CeeBee's. The design of this bullet is just begging to be used on grouse in areas where quiet is beneficial. I also tested them for accuracy at one point and found them very consistent in my gun.

Rem CB's have 33gr at 740, CCI Quiet 40gr at 710. Both shoot accurately with about 60-70% function in my slightly modified 12.5 Dlask bbl 10/22.
They shoot 2" low at 50m with rifle sighted at 50m for high velocity .22. The Rem CB are destructive at 25m, reminding me of Stinger at 100m.

As I had mentioned previously, the CB "s" ,and "l" I have slung are quieter than my springer air riles. I can hear hammer "click", and ball being received "thwack"...2 very quiet sounds.I'm now aching to try this kind of "quiet" fun w/40gr ball. It is a different ammo, and not a marketing terminology construct.

I had a box of .22 BBs that looked just like the floberts. Does anyone make rounds like this anymore?
Looks like I was right CB's do have powder and BB's don't. Unless other brands have powderless CB's.

Yeah. At 25 yds, about 80% of my 'Quiets' will blast right thru an empty corrugated steel soupcan, but slugs striking off-center, on the curved part will dent but bounce off. It's a microcosm of armoured warfare--tank armour vs anti-tank projectile. btw-- My 'Quiet' bullets are more pointed than the CCI std LRs.

My Welsh game warden pal says the 'thump' of the slug striking a rabbit's head is louder than the muzzle report: "putt"... "THUMP".

Correction:
I just looked at the box. It is actually CCI Quiet-22 Segmented HP. Number in bottom right corner of box is 970. Velocity is 710fps with 40 gn bullet. I bought them at Canadian tire in Cambellford. Saw them yesterday at Al Simmons in Hamilton as well. $7/50.
They have a good size hollow point so should open up pretty good.From what videos I've seen on the segmented bullets they split open just after entry so that will be good as well.

We use to call the little flobert ammo BB cap which was made in Europe. I chronyed 10 cci quiets 5 in my Browning semi auto that averaged 701 f.p.s with a 19'' barrel and 768 f.p.s. in my Marlin with 24'' barrel. The quiets worked great in both actions, no proplems.

That's interesting... Quiets point of impact was 8" low at 50 meters out of our guns sighted @ 50m with CCI SV's...
