don't mind the vent rib, brother has a model 600 in 308 with scope and the rib, I have a mohawk in 308 and scope.
I think the plain barrel on my mohawk doesn't look as good as his 600.
I don't think I would like a rib on anything else, but to me it just looks right on a 600
