Its probley been asked a million times but, i sent in my r pal application and they got it on the 21st, iam an existing non r pal holder and the application has passed initial processing and is in progress... am i looking at the full wait peroid or will my existing licence cut the time down?

Hey man I'm in the same boat as you! They got mine on the 21st too, and it says I'm supposed to check back later. I wouldn't get your hopes up of having it before the end of march in all honesty... why would they rush a restricted app?
Did they call you and ask you all the questions off the application too, in addition to "why do you want a restricted license?". How hilarious of a question is that, eh? Or am I missing the real purpose? Is it purely for statistics? Are they classing us into those who shoot pistols and those who shoot short barreled rifles or both? I don't get it. Do they honestly think someone would tell them they want restricted weapons so they can hide them easier when they go to rob a 7-11? Bizarre!

Im guessing they are asking that question in regards if you are going to target shoot or a collector. If they contacted your refrences and yourself by now its usually another few weeks after that. Keep checking your online status when the time nears.

they recieved my app on Feb 5th, called my references (and myself) on Feb 14th..... now Im just hoping I get it before the Calgary gun show Easter weekend.

A guy I work with got his last week, and his references were only talked to a week before mine, so Im crossing my fingers that I get mine soon

Note to all other newbies who are thinking "I'll just get my non-restricted PAL for now." Save yourselves the hassle and get it all the first time. Even if you never get a restricted firearm, you'll have the license for it. If uncle Bob dies, you don't need to worry about a new license before inheriting his pistols.

I applied for both, they received it Dec 31/07, got it in mail 56 days later... they did not call me, nor my references, but they talked to my ex, asked her if she was ok with it, she said yes, and it was issued right after. Glad I got it, but 56 days??? wow....

You think that's bad? I recently sat in on them calling my references. Now there's hilarity:

"Did being asked to be a reference for this lower your opinion of the applicant?"
"Do they show a fascination with workplace or school based shootings?"

Yikes. Kinda shows the society we live in these days.

And too sad.

In case you're wondering . . . I just got my license in the mail on Monday March 3. According to the website they recieved the application on 2008/02/15. Under two week processing if you subtract the mailing time.

I'm a reference on several people's applications. I'd love to field a response to this one. CFC must get an earful from time to time asking these types of questions.

I checked the status online and on Thursday it said my license has been issued and I should have it in 2 weeks.
So, I mailed it on Feb.7, they received it on Feb.15 and started processing, final approval was done on March. 6th and I should have it this week.
So roughly 5 weeks for an upgrade of an existing license holder.

 They recieved mine Feb 15 also, Still nothing :(

it's important to remember that there are two stages to this thing: Federal and provincial.
It seems that each time I call the Feds they tell me they've been done with my application for over a week and that's the provincial office that's dragging, which is really weird since I live in gun friendly Alberta! It really shocked me to find that it was Alberta slowing things down, but the person at the CFC told me that ALberta is really understaffed right now, but they're hiring more to speed things up.
So I guess the speed you get it has quite a lot to do with how much your province has invested in the administrative side of things... oh and of course call your references and make sure they have returned calls/messages that the CFC have left as that really speeds things up too.
Good luck man! All you have to remember is that you will EVENTUALLY get it.

well its the 30th and they got it on feb 21, no change on my status online for R pal, says its passed initial process and is in progress? should i be worried? my non r pal wasnt like this waiting for it.
