So, I purchased a new R1 Enhanced and tested it for the first time at my local range yesterday.

In only 2 mags, I had about 5 jams. ...

using Federal AE 45 ACP FMJ 230GR.

Is this normal? I did some research and some people say that the standard mags that it comes with are complete crap and that this is the issue. Just wanted to get some more input.

I went ahead and ordered some Wilson Combat ETMs and I guess I'll see if this makes the difference.

I've never had a jam with my R1 govt. R1 mags no problem. I've also use Mec Gar 7 rd mags with no issues at all. Hell as cheap as they look and feel even the mags out of my Norinco work flawlessly. I'd be more inclined to try different ammo. My R1 is my wild bunch gun and I love it

I had problems with the R1 mags when I had mine. It ran flawlessly with a Chip McC Shooting Star though. I hope the new mags sort it out for you!

My R1 enhanced needed some break in; i experienced frequent FTEs during the first 250 rounds (1 every other mag roughly). Keep it very wet and shoot it often... you'll soon see those problems disappear. Mine now functions flawlessly with R.E.M. And WC mags

My R1 enhanced has never had a FTF and it's eaten lots of American Eagle 230. I do have some extended 10 rounders to go with the factory mags but never had a problem with any. Curious, are you new to shooting handguns? 45acp packs a little more punch than say a 9mm. If you aren't gripping the gun quite right you'll have some FTE.

What sort of jams? You didn't say that.

I've got an older R1 Enhanced and found that the chamber is pretty snug and short. Good for better accuracy and fine if the ammo is in spec but not at all tolerant of ammo with any sort of bulge in the case or bullet. If the ammo is out at all it stops the slide from falling fully into battery.
