Rabbit hunting suddenly closed in Northern/Central Ontario.

MNR will now require minimum group size for a guaranteed rabbit bull tag. You may buy a rabbit license and hunt baby rabbit for a two week season in fall.

Why was it necessary to implement daily/possession limits and closing the season for varying hare so early in NWO?

Barely anyone I know hunts them, especially in the spring... and they "breed like rabbits" with multiple litters per year, so this accomplishes effectively nothing but further limiting hunting opportunities.

I used to really like getting out in spring to hunt them after work once you can drive into the logging roads. The population is very cyclical, but if you hit them on a peak and know how to find them... it can be really action packed (and they taste pretty good).

Has any reason been given ? There is certainly no shortage of them in north western Ontario .

So that all those wolves and coyotes your not allowed to hunt anymore have something to eat

Just this past week I purchased a new 22 for pretty much the exclusive purpose of hunting rabbits this spring. Of course, I'll use it in the fall as well. But it was bought with spring bunnies in mind. I won't be happy if this turns out to be true. There's no logical reason for it.
