When I was younger, I used to just take a walk in the woods. Usually on the edge of a thicket or alders or evergreens and just see them everywhere. Since Coyotes migrated to PEI our Rabbit (snowshoe hare) population has dwindled and recently come back a little. Now hunting with a dog is almost necessity, seems the bunnies have adapted to Coyotes. The day of just spotting one has pretty much gone, I have shot 3 this year without the dog but that's it.
We have very little snow this year and I found a spot where the bunnies were coming out of the woods to get a little green grass on the back of a buddies property, I am going to try sitting there ne of these evenings to see if they will come out for a snack. I will be using a 17 hmr so I should be able to take them from anywhere on the property.
I heard of a few guys that look for an abundance of trails and where they intersect, he then finds a spot about 15-25 yds away and waits until the sun goes down. He says it is usually good for 1-3 rabbits before legal time ends.
