Racking a pistol with a disability

She has been shooting my P320 lately. She doesn't have a pistol for herself yet, so potential for modifications is going to be part of the decision on which pistol to buy her. There seems to be a fair number of mods that replace the rear slide plate on the Glocks, and a G48 is on the list for her to handle due to its slim size and her small hands.

The G48 will have limited aftermarket support compared to a 17 or 19. Due to how robust the aftermarket is for glock 17/19 I'd be looking at them first.

I handled a 48 at my LGS the other week. Man was it skinny. I couldn't help but think that skinny grip was going to concentrate the recoil onto a smaller part of my hand, which made me wonder about comfort during a long range session. Oddly enough I didn't find the mag release to be much easier to reach than the 19 I checked out at the same time either.

They're definitely a slim pistol. But she's 5'3" and a little over 100lbs, so petite hands. A smaller handling pistol might also allow her to reach the mag release and slide stop without shifting her grip too much.

I'm only 5'6", and don't have big hands. I found the slide release to be easy to reach on both the 19 and 48, but couldn't get my thumb to the mag release without shifting my grip with either. YMMV.

This accessory looks like a grenade pin on the back of the slide. I like the idea in the context of the original question.

When people get cold, tired or stressed, fine motor control goes away. I learned that many years ago on winter warfare training. Being able to make big muscle movements with limited finesse is always a better choice that something that requires a precise grip or small refined movements.

There’s a Ruger MK III 22 pistol on the EE right now and it has an aftermarket grip ring that’s clamped on the back of the slide. Looks like the ticket you’re looking for.

Lol, yeah ok. Now how do you do all that with only the use of 1 hand?

left works fine two fingers on right hand straight thump and pinkie work on right. thumb squeezepinkie wrap . left is pushing slide also pushing pistol into right hand. my hands dont work well anymore. but i think what i described will work takes some practise. a 9mm isnt easy for me some days

Cool, thanks for the break down.
