Anyone else noticing a spike in populations west of London? We had a couples of excavators used as toilets (lost a $2,400 wiring harness on one machine due to chewing), and my kids treehouse seems to be on their list also. I've taken 10 in the last week with 2 more juveniles last night. In a normal year I'd get under a half dozen total as nuisance animals.

Outskirts of Hamilton I can fill my traps every single night as well as cap a few during the day. Its like sweeping a dirt floor they just keep coming and coming. My trail cams are full of raccoon and possums.

Huge spike of raccoons in Eastern On this year. I am picking them up on trail cameras in numbers I have never seen before as well as out and about in broad daylight when I am working some of my food plots. They are going to be hard on the turkey nests this year!

Soon, they'll get rabies or distemper and the problem will be solved. :) Mother nature has her ways.

When they bring $2.50 for their pelts at the fur sales this is what you get. No one traps them when they are prime and they have more value as nuisance animals for what the Nuisance Wildlife Control operators charge to remove them.

We are between London and Sarnia and had distemper roll through last fall. Was shooting sick ones all fall, all over the neighbourhood. I have heard one coon and not seen a single one turkey hunting this spring. Mother nature is not a kind mistress some days.

Turkey population on my farms west of London and east of Windsor is super high. Guys who hunt bought two tags ea and I got offered more than normal share.

On the racoon problem I apparently have another wiring harness gone, they are ignoring moth balls and I just ordered some repellent from the USA.

Cayenne pepper or the hottest you can get in the bulk food store. Mix in some warm water and it is the same as the commercial Critter Ridder types. Just don't spray something your touching regular and not wear gloves

Interesting idea but not the best for an engine compartment that needs daily checking, I'd be the first to forget let alone one of the guys. My repellent product @ $12USD +SH has yet to arrive from the US for all I know that's what it is.

"RACCOON EVICTION LIQUID

About 1 ounce of this product will make the female remove her family from the dwelling in no more than 48 hours. It almost always works on the first night but has taken over 2 days. You must enter the attic to apply this liquid. Place the liquid on a tennis ball, then screw the ball to a large nylon piece of rope. Toss the ball in those hard to reach places near the den and retreive. Do this in every spot of the attic except near the exit hole. "

Thanks I seem to have plenty of volunteers.

Even though the full moon was Tues night (folklore I know), last night was weird. Just heading to bed looked out a window and out in the corn a juvenile was sitting, knocked him off. I went to pick him up and a large sow was running a couple hundred yards to my west. Took a few pokes to finally walk a hit into her as she ran at which point another large coon came rushing out of a tree line she was headed to, it got away. This morning 3 live traps were full, and fresh poop in the kids treehouse. In total I think I'm up over a dozen more in the past couple days.

Repellent apparently arrived yesterday, all I know is it smells like some kind of animal urine I'm guessing a predator like mink? We'll see how it works on one machine before I splash it around too much. Just noticed I paid USD $13.99 + SH but it came with some other stuff..

Live trap and a water barrel. :)

I don't know if it's just me but there are more and more of red raccoons these days. Years ago all coons were silver. I wonder what causes this change.

While I see raccoons around the city, the only problem animal we have is a skunk that likes to dig through the neighbourhood garbage. The wife is terrified of getting sprayed by it. The only other ground animal we see is a rabbit in the backyard.

They are doing here what they did last year in Ontario where they were dropping rabbie vaccines from an Airplane to curb rabbies hence the population spike. My Wife's humming bird feeder seemed to be empty every morning I put out the trail cam and the Coon was on the hand of the porch tipping the feeder sideways and having a drink.I do not know if he got his rabbie shot but he get some number 7 shot.
