Did a test piece and was really impressed. Now I'm looking to do a whole barrel/receiver. Do I have to have the water boiling or will really hot suffice? Just wondering if I need to make a tank and burner setup.

I do mine in a large tank, but the water doesn't quite boil. You need it really hot though, it is the heat you are after. I used an old BBQ I cut the bottom pan on a bit so my aluminum tank sits down right close to the flames. I put about 3 gallons of water in and it doesn't quite boil, but does an excellent job.

For a tank, I have one of the stainless steel tanks sold by CanAm. Use it for parking, but would be fine for the hot water blue. BBQ is fine for parking.
For hot water blue, you want the steel to evaporate dry as soon as possible once it leaves the bath. The hotter the water is, the better.

Thanks for the help guys. I was talking to a friend at work and he thinks he has what I need for a tank. I've got a BBQ, turkey frier, and various other things kicking around for heat. Ideally a long burner would be best me thinks. I'll have to ponder that one a bit.
