Rain gear recommendations

I agree Rubber is better if you arent moving. But it isnt light weight and it doesnt breathe. and its uncomfortable as hell and ugly.

KUIU Yukon is the best you can get that is breathable. and I think its pretty damn good even compared to rubber. And its good for wind breaker.

HH Impertec is rubber, and lighter than the Kuiu Yukon. I have a full set of Kuiu Yukon that was given to us to try, and it makes decent water resistant mountain wear but it’s not even close to being real rain gear. I still like it, but trusting it as your primary rain gear could really ruin a trip should you find real rain.

Here’s a good forum member soaked through in brand new Sitka.

I ordered a set of HH Gale. I went back and tried them again at Marks today. The Gale stuff is a little heavier than Abbotsford but it fits better, has pockets, has a zipper and snaps, and just seems a little sturdier overall. The Gale jacket has neoprene cuffs too which is nice.

Feel free to keep throwing out suggestions though. Lots of good discussion. Thanks for the all the suggestions so far, this has been helpful.

Gore Tex doesn’t work on the west coast in the spring and fall,

There must be a different north west coast than the one I've worn gore tex pro in for weeks at a time then.

Another vote for Stanfields. I don't know what kind of magic they infuse the sweaters with but I can breath well in them and I run pretty hot. Great for working hard outside in the winter in the bush, hunting or otherwise. The weird tunic length also works well tucked into pants style rain pants

Says a lot about them when you realize how many people that work in the bush all season wear them.

I will always associate them with bush monkey forestry jobs in BC . Funny to be somewhere like the Mez or Munro and see dozens of people wearing them.

Maybe an urban legend, but a friend of a friend apparently bought a stanfield at the value village in PG and it had "PG RCC" stitched into it

I've never found any rain gear that kept me dry. There is always so much condensation trapped inside the damn rain coat that a fellow might as well just get wet.

Which is what I've always chosen to do. Just wear good warm layers, with some wool.

Get back to camp at night and dry out by the fire.

^ What am I doing wrong??

I think the HH stuff is good for low physical activity, but anything crazy physical activity you are going to sweat your bag off no matter what you are wearing. If you are worried about rain on your ATV pick up a cheap XXL motorcycle rain suit. They pack up easy and you can just throw them on over your hunting clothes after all they are meant to be thrown over motorcycle gear.

I have a Browning branded rain coat I bough 25 years ago at Russell Sports, it doesn't say the material or country of origin. Works well and get lots of admiring looks from the Ladies when I wear it to Town. It is not the current Browning raingear.

Hated the bibs that came with it.

Funny you mention that. My father has an old browning rain coat that is still going strong. The bibs didn't last though

Nothing at all, nature of the beast. You’re lucky it’s dry enough to have a fire there. Living in the bush on the BC coast in the spring and fall you just got used to living soggy, nothing ever dries. But it’s sure nice to be able to stop the fresh cold rain from seeping in.

Had I known how long my rubber Carhartt rain jacket would last I wouldn’t of bought a yellow one but it was a wet week and needed it. Easily 10 years and counting now and nobody at work has the heart to steal it…lol. As a Christmas gift at work a fewa years back we got new carhartt storm defender jackets but it only worked for a few years until the spray wore off and now the shoulders get wet… still got old yella though!
