Hey guys, what do you guys use/recommend for rain gear while hunting? I'm usually cheap when it comes to gear but as I am getting older, I'm starting to appreciate good equipment. I am currently looking at Grundèns weather watch bib/jacket, it looks decent but I am worried about noise (fabric feels noisy) and if it actually is water proof or more of a fancy wind breaker.

I'm open to suggestions but no Under Armour, f@ck those guys...

Thanks!

Don't get me wrong, they make great gear and I used to buy a lot of their products. I stopped the day they pulled their sponsorship from Sarah Bowmar after her husband speared a bear in Alberta...

I find a base, mid and then a Gore-Tex layer works well.

My preference has been mil surplus ECWCS jackets and pants. They vary in quality, but they keep me dry which is the goal. The only component that regularly fails is boonie hat! So I use the hood and cap / beanie instead now.

With the right base layers (merino works well, but does not seem very durable) it works.

Candocad.

I love my Sitka rain gear, not cheap but zero regrets on purchasing it. For rain gear I'd take Sitka or kuiu over Under Armor any day of the week.

I have an eddie bauer rain jacket that you can attach warm layers to the inside. I never attach layers to other layers but a hoddie inside that jacket is good to -5C walking around. I have not tested it in extreme rain but it has done well in medium rain fall. The hood is a good shape and you can adjust it. It kinda has a brim on it which is nice. when it is sitting on your back it folds nicely and does not make a bowl to collect water.

I bought it a few years ago so it may have changed a bit but it looks like this one. I did not pay this much though

The rain will cover up any noise from your rain gear i use the green Healy Hanson's
The quiet hunting rain gear BS is just a marketing ploy
it's easy to walk right up to a deer ,moose,or bear in the Rain
no stealth needed all these animals can hear is the rain falling and not the rain gear

Fully agree, my problem with loud gear is for when it's barely or stopped raining and you still have it on, can't take the time to take it off when closing the distance on a deer at bow range, I'd hate to spend 800$ on a nice rain suit only for it to be as loud as a bag of chips...

I wear Arc'teryx and Cabelas Instinct camo rainwear. Both have lifetime guarantees and neither have let me down. I've been disappointed with Kuiu for a variety of reasons and feel they put marketing before anything else.

Helly Hansen stretchy green bibs and jacket. Called Impertech. Not breathable, but will always stay water proof and the bibs breathe by convection up and out the top. Tough as they come too, and not very noisy.

For light rain don't really need good rain gear and the Hi-Tech junk is better in that circumstance I guess
Me I just put the H/H in the pack and but wear wool Stanfield shirt in light rain ( BC tuxedo)
Standard for West Coast loggers and fisherman four generations

Man do I agree with you on the Kuiu I think I'd about fashion over function

I checked out Kuiu and their jackets look alright but those pants look flimsy as f***, for that money I think a simple cord around the waist is crappy IMO... I've tried the Sitka Cloudburst before and think I might start to lean towards that...

3 layer goretex Taiga top and bottoms with polypro LJs and a fleece matched to activity level.

I also have some old, soft 2 layer camo top and bottoms that are sorta fleecy and they work surprisingly well for short periods of rain and are warmer and quieter.
