From another forum there was a post on kids hunting and I started going through my pics and found a series that documents the continuing evolution of my young sons into hunters. I've taken them since they were toddlers and then as they grew.

Then last year, the oldest started shooting for himself.

I wish i Could of did more hunting when i was a Kid & I wish i had pic's! . It was not till i was 15 or so Till i got a Real Gun & started to Hunt. My Dad Was SomeWhat Anti gun till i was 15 or so. (He Had a Hunting Accident Which ended the life of his brother when he was a kid..) So he did not Want me with Gunz But I Aways had them LOL! ("bb-gunz" And other gunz i could find that i did not need a pal for...Like Antiques)
 
Fantastic pics! Great looking animals there.

I managed to get my 12 year old to come along for the moose hunt this year and spend two days with the 11 of us. Great experience for him. Got to see our group take a bull and a calf. My son got his PAL in Sept, and will do the hunter safety in the spring. My 7 year old is a bit behind still. But my 28 year old step son came hunting for the first time this year as well! I am doing my part to bring in new hunters.
 
Nice pics.My son is in his early 20s and has hunted for many years but this is the first year I noticed he has really figured things out as to tracking,where the deer will go when pushed etc.Hunting really brings families together,I was talking to a freind last week and three of his boys were coming home for a week to hunt he could hardly wait.
 
I really enjoyed looking at the pictures. Its great to see kids be involved and having a good time with my favorite sport. As far as kids go, you can give them some good influences, but you cannot make their will. As a parent you can only offer them opportunities to try as many things as possible, and they will ultimately make up their own minds of what they like and dislike. I came from a family of three boys who spent many days doing the same thing as in the previous photos, and I'm the only one who stayed with hunting. Of my three stepkids, given the same opportunities only one kept it up to be out hunting and fishing, however, she's now married and having babies at this time.

Like i say, these are all precious memories and much more than spending an afternoon out in nature. Give them the chance to try as many things as possible so they can find something to excel at. If they continue any these activities, then it marks success as a parent. If they continue hunting and fishing, its a further success as a sportsman, not just a parent.
 
I see you are trying for father of the year. Good for you for taking your kids along with the best hobby there is. I find hunting really matures a young person and is good for their upbringing. My son didn’t get out with me this year for large game, we did get out for some small game, upland, and duck hunts. He is just out of college and has a full time job which he works 50 – 60 hours a week with away from our place.
 
Obviously you live just a little outside of paradise.

I raised two hunters, a son and a daughter. I used to take my son out of grade school for a moose hunt every year. One of the teachers complained to me about it. I told her that he learned more from me and my hunting partner in that week than he would ever learn in school. She never bothered us again although she was decidedly anti-hunting.:D

Yep know the feeling, took my #2 son out of grade 2 for a month to go to Africa elephant hunting and touring north Africa and Europe and his teacher was quite indignant about it all, dumb cow!! He saw Victoria Falls, the pyramids, Vatican city, St Peters Bassilica, the Cistene chapel, the Collisium and on and on and on.....He saw more in that month than most will see in their lifetime and she was against it, if you can believe that!!
#1 son is doing his best to outdo the old man so he hunts every free moment, he's been to Africa with me and he's booked his own hunt and gone back on his own. He now officially has more Dall sheep than me and more bigger Grizzly than me, his moose this year is bigger than my best and he took a great cougar last year which I have yet to do. I encourage him at every turn, (but he'll never get a bongo, I'll see to that!!) It's better than video games or drugs and loose women and I DO encourage him at every turn. (Ok maybe not the women) But there are many worse obsessions out there than hunting.

Yeah but be careful about creating stereotypes. I am a vice-principal in a K-12 school and am currently creating a display of all of our students' successful 2012 hunts. The girls here out hunted the boys by a huge margin.

Good for you! There are not enough of you in the school system.

Meanwhile, to the OP -- Nice kids -- nice photos! Congratulations on doing a great job of parenting.

(Ooops! You ARE the OP! Now I'm going to retreat and shut up.)
