raising kids was costly and is going to get even costlier

At our club, any youth who comes out to shoot clay games is given 2 free rounds of birds, and 2 free boxes of ammo per visit. We also have a youth sized 870 Wingmaster for their use if they don't have a gun.

We have 2 club members who were Junior National Champions in Trap (though only 1 is an active trap shooter these days.)

Heading into 2010 we have a new volunteer who wants to spearhead Youth Programs at our club, so I hope to drastically increase the volume of Youth shooters next year.

Good luck to you and your son!

Thanks nav,

We're slowly making our plans for 2010, and a lot more youth programs and shooting events are in the works for sure.

Youth programs

The success to our sport is within our youth.

I am planning to start a 22 youth program for our club this year, however I have not found a proven program or organization that I would like to get involved in.

I don't shoot trap or skeet but it would be great to see that going at our club too.

Youth programs

I am looking for a program that I can run at my club and then have the kids attend a sanctioned or provincial shoot so they can look forward to something.

I have been looking but can't find exactly what I am looking for.

We also have a junior biathlon program, which fits your description perfectly. Our treasurer is a certified coach, and we've sent kids to the Arctic Winter Games in the past.

Perhaps that's a direction you could look into? Or perhaps a youth 'division' for IDPA/IPSC?

Biathlon and Trap are about the only conventional shooting sports I can think of which offer youth divisions and sanctioned matches...

pls see this--we need a program like this in canada and also it would be very helpful if there was a financial contribution from the goverment to assist in re-juvenating and re-invigorating shotgun/shooting sports.
