Ramblings on Gun Deals

personally if i see something I like but dont really "have to have" i will almost always offer a lower price cause at that point it's all about pricing on whether I will buy or not. on the other hand if there's something you really want and it's got a decent price on it i wont even bother. Ive lost enough deals to other people worryin about savin $50 or whatever in hagling that i dont bother anymore. thats somethin to think about if your gonna make an offer on an item that you may lose out on it if someone else is willing to pay the asking price so if the price is fair and it's what u want chances are that if u make an offer ur proably not gonna get the item. too many people lookin for the same deals means u gotta be fast.

so far ive had great deals with everyone that ive made deals with. ive had alot of not so good sellers/buyers but then i just chose not to buy/sell to them so no problem. nothin forcing u to sell or buy from a guy bein a douche.

biggest thing is communication. ive done transfers where the seller got called outa town for work. He told me what was goin on we talked about it, it took alittle bit longer but we both knew where we stood and everything whent smoothly no problems. I find alot of the EE #####ing has more to do with lack of communication then anything else.

MadDog makes a good point about dealing with guys you know.

Everytime RIckF, Rembo, Supercub or Bartell posts in the EE I check my visa balance.

I did a deal with a guy from SK for a nice Sako AV about a year ago and he dithered about the deal for a while, then took his time in paying me and then starting pressuring me to ship it faster and really got aggressive after I had shipped it. He only had a few ratings, but I wouldn't deal with him again.

What pisses me off is when you deal fairly and politely, going the extra mile and the buyer treats you like dirt. All I ask for is to get back what I give. I've done a few deals here, and made some friends. Other deals I suffered through because I didn't want to get screwed halfway through. I had experiences like Rick's, guys trying to beat you down every dime. It came to a point where now if I get the feeling like that from a buyer--I say "Thanks for looking, but I'll pass". I've actually had the same guy low-ball me on different guns and say the same thing-"it's all I've got". You can't blame a guy for trying, but some offers are offensive, and manners help. I hear you Rick. So Cheers to the good deals and friends made, and to the lowballers and rude pricks-Thanks, but no thanks.

I have had very positive dealings on the EE both as a buyer and a seller with aprox 100 transactions. Regardless a person has to apply DD and do there research. As for price issues, such as overpriced items and low-ballers, the EE is a market place and the market will dictate prices. No different than anywhere else. IMHO

I have made a few good friends in buying rifles from these fellows, I have yet to get ripped off or offended, if you want the gun and the price is about what you think its worth, JUST BUY IT! THe peddling of a few dollars is not worth the bad taste it leaves in your mouth. I have had excellent dealing's with win22 he A+++ very knowledgable and has become a good friend , matt74 he knows how to ship a gun and will lookout for things you want, Leila was excellent to deal with phoned me right up and accepted offer, a real straight shooter. I also have had great dealings with Ellwood Epps this past year, thanks for no excuses! And to all good hunting ,yo will find something you did not even know you needed, best regards Dale in T-Bay:D

again if you have a problem with people offering a few bucks less on your EE listings, then instead of getting your panties in a bunch over it put FIRM after the price, register as a dealer and start selling new guns, or stop selling in the EE. i am not talking about crazy lowball offers, but some good-natured bargaining is to be expected when you are offering personal sale of used items.

All of my dealings have been pretty good except with some Rem 700 bottom metal I just recently bought from a person here. Met the guy in person, it was getting dark out and I trusted that it would be okay when I got home.

got home, found out it wasnt the factory painted black finish but rather the who thing had been painted dark brown (spring, floor plate latch, etc).

A bit of carb cleaner to take it off only to find a light tan color under that.

Lovely.

After a 24 hour soak in paint thinnner and a lot of scrubbing with a green scotchbrite pad, I'm almost back down to the origional finish.

Looks like i'll have to sand blast it and refnish with some cerakote.

I do not think I could have said it better.

Well it's not just EE..

I have a truck for sale on Used Ottawa.. it's priced at $5K.. I've had offers of $2k and $3K .. the truck above mine on the list on the same model and year.. with 50K less kilometers and they want 8K.... So I figure my price is reasonable....

I discovered CGN last summer. Bought a couple of guns. Great. Sold a couple. Even greater. Put in an ad for 9, sold 8. It doesn't get any better than this. Other than a couple of lowball offers, I'm yet to deal with any one I wouldn't invite into my home to do the deal.

This is an interesting thread...but what about those of us that love hagglin'? I'm the guy that will sit all day at the car dealership to get that last dime out of them (and enjoy doing it). However, I know that lots of people don't like doing this...and the EE doesn't lend itself to do this. For me I'll either have to buy new (and haggle at the store...thus my nice 0 rating) or post exactly what I want and what I'll pay (which will more than likely disgust someone). Case in point...I'm looking for a Swiss Arms CQB. I know that they generally go for around $3500 with the odd sale here and there. The recent sale at Italian Sporting Goods (Vancouver) got that price down to about $2900...which was great...but that was the offered price and the guy told me they only paid $2700 from the distributor and needed to make the $200 profit. I tried to negotiate for $2800 (thus $100 profit and I was already buying a hangun and ammo) and got a blank look and a firm "No". Ok, no worries, I can wait. I'm not upset at ISG...it's their gun to sell as they wish...I know I'll eventually get the CQB at the price I want to pay but could you imagine if I tried this kind of thing to an individual who might have paid full retail (thus all the guys in the EE wanting $3000+ to whom I mean no disrespect)...they'd think I'd insulted them and would probably belittle me in PM's or something. I say let each pay what he/she is comfortable with but if by chance I come a calling just let me know what your lowest firm price is so I don't try to "beat you down". I don't want any hating...I just enjoy hagglin'...:D

I've only been around for a little over a year,I found a few good deals at first, but in that short time prices seem to have inflated, a lot guys seem to be on fish'n expeditions when their sell'n rifles. You can usally see that by the # Btt's but yet they still won't negotiate the price. If a gun has over a 1000 views its time to put out the small bait and forget about the whale.

I just want to add at the same time there are still a lot of excellent gun'rs willing to make a fair exchange.

I'd like to make a plug for the dealers on this site. I've gotten things at more than a fair price ( read lower than those big box places) more than once. Service has been top notch. If the EE hasn't got what you want click on a few of those banners up top.

There has only been one person that I had issues dealing with on this forum. He kept calling and calling and offering a little more each time, but still well below what I was asking. He fed me every line in the book, including not being able to afford his kids education if he paid me what I was asking.I then realized that he was buying and selling the guns for profit,so I refused to sell to him,and later sold the gun to someone else for more money.

I had an experience just like that selling a scope, i wonder if it was the same guy.

I have sold decent rifles for reasonable, fair prices on this site. I have purchased decent rifles for reasonable, fair prices. No bad transactions yet.

Many, many people are unrealistic in terms of the asking price.

Me too...

Like anybody with internet and free long distance can quickly find the value of gun stuff.
Like I am going to pay you to recoup the PST... LOL

It comes down to basic supply and demand.
All my deals have been what I consider fair, both selling and buying. A couple of items I've bought were priced near new, but they're hard to find and I knew they'd be gone if I didn't snag them.
The greatest thing about the EE is doing trades,IMO. This isn't possible outside of this board. I have gotten exactly what I wanted several times without having to sell my item and then buy what I wanted.
It's also nice to see that in our decadent society there are still many out there who have pride and integrity. :)

I sold a rifle on the EE. The buyer was 100% satisfied and even thanked me for taking such good care of the rifle for the 25 years I owned it. Left him positive feedback. He left me none. I contacted him and asked him to leave a feedback rating for me. No response from him. Contacted him again explained how I was trying to get a feedback rating going. Still no response. Oh well, I am glad he is enjoying my old rifle. Still no feedback.

Regards,
Powderman

hey powderman sell me something good and i will leave feedback for you! some guys don't seem to leave feedback no mater how good the deal was.

It happens. Some people just can't be bothered leaving feedback. My actual trader rating should be closer to 60, except for the 10 or so people who didn't leave feedback.
