I have the chance to buy a Garand.
It comes with an aftermarket Ramline stock.
Does anyone here have any REAL experience with one.
(Not so much interested in hearing that it is sacrilege to do that to a Garand. I know that already!)

TIA

ive used one, it was ok. back in the day when lever brought all the M1s in, I bought 5 from him. it musta been my lucky day as he was talking about some that had come without stocks or broken stocks. he said they were gona put the plastic ramlines on them. long story short I asked if I could buy one without a stock, sure why not, I got a Winchester in decent shape, great bore and about 60% finish left for 99$. I put it in a camo ramline, fit perfect no messin around. I shot it lots and it stayed solid. sold it to a friend, and he has shot it lots, still solid. the only thing I didn't like was the grip, way skinny and a weird feel

I've got a Breda set up with the Ramline stock, as I use this rifle quite a bit, and in crappy weather, and I couldn't bear to see 60 year old wood getting dinged up on a moose hunt. So far I've been very happy with it and my rifle definitely shoots accurately installed in this stock.

Interesting mount you have there. What brand?
I was wondering about a reflex mounted well forward.

So I did buy this gun yesterday.
It came with the Ramline stock as well as the original wood.
I am swapping the wood back, which means I now have a Ramline to replace some badly damaged wood on another Garand I am rebuilding.

However, when I looked closely at the Ramline, I see some issues.
The vertical recoil lugs are beginning to shear away, and the whole stock is a bit loose fitting.

So I need to know, can the rubbery synthetic material be glass-bedded?

The Ramline stock doesn't care whether you smack it against a tree - unlike a 70-yr old black walnut stock.

I have shot a Garand in a plastic stock, and IMHO the felt recoil is less than with a wood stock. The whip seems to make the snap of a 30-06 lighter. Which I know is counterintuitive, because recoil is a function of weight and energy.

I have a camo one on a M1 Garand and hate it. The grip feels all wrong and super thin. It's almost too lightweight which some may want but not I when it comes to a garand. I'll be replacing this ramline with a DGR stock & handguards soon.

Hmmm.....I recently painted/stained a fibreglass door to make it look like real wood. The results were decent. I wonder if something like that can be done with this stock....

It is more flexible than fibreglass. It might be more like painting the plastic bumper guard on a car.
