Ramline stocks.....what do you think?

I've got a k98 action I want to restock and I'm looking for an ok synthetic.
The cal is 8x57 and I want to be sure the stock is up to the recoil.
What do people think of Ramlines? Good? Bad? Ok in specific applications?
If you think they suck is there an appropriate and economical synthetic you can recommend?
 
'economical synthetic' usually refers to injection moulded. Run away screaming. I'm not much of a fan of synthetic stocks anyways. Composite or fibreglass maybe.

I'd suggest an HS precision sporter stock, but they're hardly economical
 
I have had 2 Ramlines and broke one. They are PLASTIC and feel like it too. Seems they have that brittle, hollow, cheep feel. Another thing is your gun will be LOUD every time you work the action or brush against a tree. That hollow plastic realy amplifies sound. Bedding the stock will help get rid of about half of the plastic sound when working the action.
All that being said I just bougt one about a month ago and put it on a 308 Model 70. It needed to be inleted a little and beded, it works.

Go for a Buttler Creek they are much much better and not that much more money. I have 3 varous 98 actions in Butler Creek stocks and they work good. There may be some beding/ fitting issues depending on your action, or it may just drop right in

I had a Ram-Line on a Mark 10 .375 H&H - until I replaced it with a nice piece of walnut.

The Ram-Line would have made a good moose call. Rubbing the sides of the butt on a tree sunded just like rubbing a shoulder blade.
 
I've had a couple of the older black Ramline synthetic stocks. [Back when they came stock with a Pachmayr decelerator recoil pad installed on them]. I think they make an okay econo replacement stock.

I still have one on a Rem 788 carbine in 7mm-08. Action just dropped right in. Didn't have it bedded. Barrel is floated in the stock right from the received just as is. This rifle will shoot honest sub 1" 3-shot 100 yard groups all day long in this stock. I think I got a bargain considering Ramlines don't break the bank when you buy 'em.

I think a Ramline would do okay for a K98 in 8x57mm...

Phil Shoemaker had an interesting article about stocks in this month's Rifle magazine. He wrote that, for rough hunting, he was quite pleased with the injection moulded stocks as they were easier to work on to get to fit what he wanted. True they're not pretty, but Phil is a guy that knows his rifles and I have no doubt that they get used REALLY hard. If they're good enough for him, they're more than good enough for me. Certainly worth trying before you step up and drop a bunch of money on a name-brand composite.
 
Ramline is not in the same playing field as the stocks Phil was refering to in his article. At -20 these things are brittle as hell I doubt that Phil would recomend them.
Injection molded plastic is way different than the injection moulded composite.
