Ramshot Grand for 7mm Rem Mag

Is anyone using Grand in their 7mm Rem Mags? The only data I can find is on the Hodgdon load data website. I usually look at a few sources for load data before I start but all the hard copy books that I see have no data. The same is true for Staball HD which I’d like to try as well
 
It’s a pretty new powder, hence why published data is sparse.

Think about all the good you could give back to the reloading community if you pioneered a bit of first hand reloading experiences.
 
I’m definitely going to use them both. I have some on the bench now. I will share my results. They are relatively new but surely someone has tried them already.
 
I have been considering the same idea with Grand and Nosler 168 ABLR's but I'm just not satisfied with the current data to cross reference to make a starting point with that bullet. It being a spitzer type I have concerns with seating depths as there are no comparable bullet weight and style, data points yet. I have even tried to get some info from some of the Nosler boys on their forum and through direct e-mails. I have been told that the new edition would be soon but that was a while back now before the 7BC came out. I think the new cartridge caused them to delay the release, but that's just a guess. At that time I was searching to create a combination to create a load for one of my 6.8westerns using monolithic Hammer bullets. I did manage to create a really good load with Grand and have listed it on the Hammertime forum load share thread under my original Gun nuts handle of Metalhead. Grand is one of the best powders I've ever worked with. I will watch this thread for your update with keen interest. Cheers

While being very similar they are not identical as indicated when comparing identical cartridge and bullet combinations. Also Grand is more temp stable than Magnum. Grand also uses less powder and produces higher velocities than Magnum in the cartridge/bullet combo I just checked on the Hogdon site. The example I used was 6.8western 165grn ABLR. I was told by a very well informed person that it was developed as a similar profile to RL26 and H1000. The name Grand is a tongue in cheek reference to H1000 supposedly. It would be pointless for the same manufacturer to just relabel the same product. Cheers

I never had any luck with spherical powder in the past. However, I will purchase a pound and give it a try in my 7mm Remington magnum. Probably won't use it until the winter months of 2027, it's when I usually conduct load development.

Thanks for the info. I thought that they had just renamed the magnum to grand. :)

Honestly I thought the same when I first learned of it. The "Guy" in the video was the one who helped me the most. He frequents the Nosler forum often. If you have questions he is likely to respond. Handskills was a huge help for me when I started to develop my 6.8wstrn Hammer bullet load too. Going off book is something I don't like but if there's no other option I take everyone's opinion into consideration. BTW Magnum and Hunter powder are made in Belgium, Grand is made in the U.S. That's one of the reasons I wanted to create a load with it. More reliable access to the product due to point of origin and more temp stable. Though H1000 is fairly stable too it's a stick powder, so it doesn't meter as nice. Cheers

If you know what bullet and barrel your trying to develop for (twist is important with bullet weight and type) I'm happy to ask around and will share the source info. Cheers
Be careful of pressure spike with the 7mm remmag as Guy Miner mentions in the Vid I shared. He mentions it at around six min. while talking about the wide versatility of the powder.

Ok,so slightly dissatisfying results from the first rounds. First of all I found my chamber to be shorter than SAAMI spec but I still loaded my Speer 160gr SPBT 20 thousands of the rifling. I started at 73gr. Ramshot Grand. That’s about midrange in Hodgdon load data. First round at 1150 fps out of my 1885 28” barrel. Second round pierced the primer. Chambered the third round, a little stiff so I checked. The firing pin was marking the new primer so shooting was over for that day. After cleaning the pin seems good so I’ll resume testing soon.
 
I have used StaballHD, 74.0gn with 162 eld-x, came out at 3046fps, 26" barrel. Accuracy, SD/ES were not remarkable.

Ramshot magnum is my preferred powder for 7rem mag, i have achieved real tight groups with that powder.
