Anyone able to use their's (not interested if you haven't tried it) with the factory short stock? I'm only concerned about 25yds or less. Can you shoot 5" groups@25yds? Looking to compare effectiveness vs Blackkawk 44mag.

After you address the inherent POI issue with the Ranch Hand you will be surprised by their accuracy. I am on my third Ranch hand now chambered in .45 Colt and it along with the two .44 mags I owned before it will shoot a group of five Hornady XTP's touching at 25 yards.
Cast bullets are a different story altogether, the .45 Colt I have now does not like .452 diameter hardcast, I am currently waiting on some custom sized .454 boolits as many Rossi owners say the bore is oversized.
I never shot lead in my .44's, only 300gr XTP Mags...not the regular XTP but the Mag. Awesome bullet with some serious penetration capability.

I will post some pictures up for you when I get home this evening as well as some load data for you to try.

Thanks for the quick reply. Lots more bow hunting on the horizon around PG, so looking for something to carry that isn't big. Tyre are open rifle animals in the same area that I hung too so not a legal issue.

Before i went with the full stock I could hit clays with a push pull hold out to 30 yards or so pretty easily, not very quickly though. I've had similair results as sun and steel, quite accurate, shots usually touching, but the stock sights were way out. Where around PG?

With any ranch hand (Rossi, Henry, etc.) installing a full length shoulder stock will change an awkward pistol into a very handy trapper carbine.
I have no experience firing the mare's legs, but in my opinion, the longer stock just makes it better.
A proper stock which will only increase the overall length by about 7 inches or so.
Your range and accuracy will definitely increase.
But, to each his own.

Absolutely,
Just got my "Little Henry" 44Mag, and was able to get <5" groups at 25m on my first trip to the range. Still figuring it out, and 50m is a work in progress. Found the best paper punching accuracy with cheap Wolf reloads (compared to S&B and AE).
Its a keeper.

Curious about the XTP mags on game, planning on using them in my 454 casull this season.

I'll be West in region 6, probably around Houston, family there.

You will probably have a good time; lots of blackies and skinny mule deer. Saw some grizzly sign in the nearby areas. Nothing to be worried about.

That's odd to have .452" not shoot well from your gun. My RH works well with Bullet Barn 250 grainers in .452".

I have used both, I can easily say the mares leg is MUCH better for accuracy over a Blackhawk pistol. Even if it prints an 1" high. Only bigger and heavier. Otherwise superior.

If I get one I'll have to experiment. I can't help be think the same as you do, but I haven't worked out the mechanics of carrying one around with a bow.

Excellent. I find the Blackhawk quite accurate, but getting under 3"@25yds with top end loads still a challenge. Not fast either.
