Fantastic with a full length stock. Way more useable and accurate. I also needed to swap the rear sight with a 0.1" lower back sight from my parts box. It was shooting 12" high at 25 yards! I tested the carbine concept by splicing a 2x4 extension onto the short stock. I'd say it is 5X the firearm with the 4-5" extension.

Mine gets 3" 75 yard groups with 300 Sierras and H4227 and 2" 75 yard groups with 240 Hornady's and Lil gun.

Video on conversion here. Lots of fun in 44 Mag. Pretty good canoe or sled gun. Will make a good caribou rifle for my son as well.

Nice vid man!

I got a finished '92 stock online and after an hour or so with a dremel and sandpaper it fit like a glove. It only added about 3-4 inches to the length, and like you I had to replace the back sight because it was hitting exactly 12" high at 25 yards lol.
Now this little .4ag is one of the most fun guns I own. Looove shooting this thing, and it'll be on my back on hiking trips.

I'd reccomend this mod to anyone with a .44 ranch hand, it makes for an unreal little gun that, for its short size, is surprisingly accurate.

Also, the wood wasn't matching on mine either so I sanded them both and put a quick coat of stain on. And I found that little saddle ring and leather strap just hot in the way so I took it off.

You should make a vid of you shooting it. That'd be sweet.

Ranch hand carbine

# 1 on the mod. I did mine a few weeks ago and love the feel. I cut the Precision stock to accomodate a rubber butt pad have a LOP of 12 1/4 inches. The OAL is now 28 1/2. More owners will probably do this for more practical use of this gun. Not intending to hi-jack but just to add to the post. I put a Skinner rear ghost ring but sadly haven't had a chance to try it out yet to see if it's on the mark. I load some 200 gr cast for plinking and 300 gr Hornady XTP for serious buisiness. Still going to mod the lever as it's a little large.

Vyrtual....will do. At the range will be my next video. How does your Rossi feed? Mine does well if cycled with authority. Cycled slow and I can induce an occasional jam.
Mine feeds great, I've never had a problem with it. When I first got it it tore it right down and gave it a good cleaning/oiling and it's been great.

Great thread, great vid...thanks, gents!

I must admit that I haven't gotten over the novelty of shooting my Ranch Hand as is, but eventually will try this mod. It looks like the gun will be much more practical this way in the long run. Mine feeds perfectly when operated smartly...going slow leads to problems.

Metalbender...that white-line spacer has got to go!

K, no it's bugging me lol. Now the dirt thing I'm doing when I get home is load up some snap caps and double check what cycling extra slow will do lol.

And jj, once you try this mod you'll be converted to the dark side lol

Finally got to shoot the Ranch Hand Carbine. " Pure joy" about sums it up. Ran 30 rnds of 200 gr cast plinkers through it. The Skinner sight needs some tinkering as it shoots quite high same as the original sights. Used a 6 o'clock hold, came up with acceptable results at 25 yrds, I don't do irons well. Had a glitch with cycling though, locked up solid once, pushed the loading gate and worked good after. Have to get the Rossi dvd from down south to slick up the action. The loop also has to be modded to shrink it a bit.

I'm curious, why not go with a finished stock from Boyd's? They are listed at only $65.

The Boyd's stocks are mostly finished and include a buttplate, but the final sanding of the stock needs to be done as well as careful Dremel work in the inletted portion of the stock to fit it proper on a Rossi. Then there's staining of the wood needed to match the Rossi forend,(Or vice-versa.) followed with final sealing finish such as tung oil, BLO or Tru-Oil.

I put 5 hours into my Boyd's stock to finish it.

Getting back to the OP's point, no matter who's butt stock you fit to the Ranch Hand, it is
definitely the way to go for these little rifles. I love the compactness of my .357 RH.;)
