Looking to get started in practical shooting, and looking at range bags. I searched this forum and found the "Shooters Connection" bag to be popular.
My question is, what do you carry in the bag? I shoot bullseye right now, and carry everything in a locked range box. Do you carry your guns in these bags? If so, how do you lock them up?

Thanks,
RPM

Gun is tigger locked inside the locked hard case, inside the range bag. I use a older model of the I-shot pro shooter range bag.
Other contents:
  • electronic ear muffs
  • ear plugs
  • shooting glasses with extra lenses
  • 8 or 10 mags
  • enough ammo for the match (x2)
  • mag cleaning brush
  • spare parts
  • brass rod
  • leatherman tool
  • ziploc baggies
  • water
  • snack bars
  • pro grip
  • if it's a level 2 or 3 match I'll bring a second pistol.
For outdoor matches you move it around the range on 2-wheel cart, complete with camp stool, umbrella, sun screen, bug spray. Change of clothes is kept in the car.

......and yes, the bigger the bag - the more #### you wil carry. When I shoot in the U.S. I lock my guns inside a brief case - it's easier to carry just that inside at U.S. Customs.

I have been using a Stanley rolling toolbox myself. I put my ammo, mags, belts, holsters, etc in the bottom and my handguns on the top tray in sof cases. It has two metal latches on each side that I lock with combination locks. I just pull it out of the trunk of my car and wheel it in. Couple of the guys I shoot with ahve taken big rolling Coleman coolers, drilled holes through them to allow a firearm cable lock to lok the top down and use that.

Well, to a competition, my range bag contains:

Magazines, spare mag springs, mag cleaning brush and rags.
Ammunition
Earmuffs, gun cover, gun (in MTM Case Guard), sunglasses (in Pelican case with spare lenses)
Spare Parts Kits (1 pelican case)
Cleaning tools (1 pelican case)
Fast grip (hand junk)
Gun Oil (2 different bottles)
Orange foam earplugs
Lens wipes
Video Camera
Spare batteries
Spare springs
water bottle
Bore snake
Spare socks
Ankle Brace
Tylenol, antihistamines, sunscreen

It gets full pretty quickly. :p

I have a Dillon, but if I was buying new, I would hands down buy a Competition Edge Dynamics bag. I have been told they make them for Dillon, but the CED has better features then the Dillon that I would prefer to have and they ar ea very reasonably priced bag.

Thanks for the replies. So far I take my gun in a plano briefcase style case, and the mags and ammo, eyes and ears in a plastic tool style box. There is no room for anything else though.
Thanks again for the replies, gives me a great idea on what I should be taking along.

I use an Uncle Mikes: http://w ww.uncle-mikes.com/products/deluxe_range_bag.html

My record includes fitting 10 boxes (250 rounds) of 12Ga targe loads, plus all my usual stuff (earmuffs, cleaning kit, borenake, chokes & wrench, snapcaps, a bunch of foam earplugs, wallet, sunglasses, bug spray and a medium sized towel).

I have a Shooters Tournament Series bag.
It is nice, rather large and very well made.
When you buy a bag, do not go cheap,
spend money on something which can serve
you many years to come.

That is a sweet bag.

Actually it's not that great.

I have one and the weight of the bag from the shoulder strap is pulling out the tabs the the D-Rings are on. They don't go all the way around.

FWIW I have a Shooters Connection Tournament Series bag and the tag inside says Competition Edge Electronics. They are the same bag.

Chuck Bradley at Shooters Connection shipped mine and it arrived in 7 days.

It looks sweet. That is about all you can say for it. It only lasted less than a year for me. It ripped after the first week. The zipper broke after a month. If you load it lite like I had to and carry around 2 bags then fine. Then I got tired of fixing the thing. If you want a good quality bag, it has to be a Shooters Connection Bag. It has now been 3 years with 3x a week visits to shooting ranges. It still looks great and no signs of ripping.

We and our dealers carry the Rescomp Range Bag.

rangebagcrt.jpg

Features Heavy Duty Zippers, Firm padding & Reinforced base. The Bag has one large center compartment with 2 internal side pockets to accommodate 2 pistols. In the center compartment is a removable Mini Range bag with 2 side Pockets & 2 center dividers that can be set to your preference or completely removed to create more space.

Another vote for the Shooter Connection Tournament bag. 4 guns + ammo + gear = entire afternoon at the range and no whining about what I forgot to bring this time. Sometimes it gets kinda heavy though.

"Range bag"...
'sounds like some sort of testicular disorder caused from over exposer to lead dust or something...

"Hey Bob... 'you okay? You're walkin' funny..."
'Not so good Bill... I got me a bad case o' range bag..." Doctor gave me some sopositories for it, but for all the good those damn things do me I might as well have shoved them up my ass..."

Right up there with "cotton balls" or "beer nuts"

I've been using a CED bag sing 2004. It's been across the country a few times, flies well and has more pockets than I use. I overloaded it on my last flight and one seam has started to pull away. Other than that, its a great bag that has survived a few years of hard, regular use.

I've looked at the 5.11 bags in person, and I don't like them. I don't think they're easy to lock, and too large to lug around for a big match. Probably good for travel but I'm starting to look for a smaller bag for range day.
