I had been talking to my dad last year and we got chatting about the new Canik TP9SFX that was out and how people where giving it some glowing reviews. My dad liked the sounds of it so much he went and picked one up.
unfortunately for him life got busy and he was unable to take to to the range...... until today when his favorite son came to visit!

i took some time last night when i was over visiting and i stripped the gun down and gave it a good initial cleaning with some G96 and checked everything over.
impressed with the gun.
supper light, the lower with the slide removed weighs absolutely nothing, it reminds me of the FN5/7.
the slide is light for a long slide, very different from my M&P Pro Core.

went out to the range today and put 100 rounds down the pipe.
right out of the box the gun was hitting bulls with no adjustment at all to the sites.
super impressed!
gun cycled flawlessly and not one issue at all for the entire day.
im so impressed with the gun im thinking i might have to add one to my safe!

ill take a couple pics here in a sec and add them to the posts below.
we are going out to the range again tomorrow to put another couple 100 rounds though it and ill update again if i had any failures and how the gun did.

Nice, I have read some really good reviews on them, can't beat what you get for the price,,hoping to get to try one some day soon. I'm interested in seeing your follow up to the initial post!

I got one just to try it and I had a extra vortex red dot I needed a gun for, as good as reason as I could think of for another gun; also got a Jericho 941s at the same time for gunshow stock
I really like the way the gun shoots, but as a single action 1911 and target 22 guy, I have not shot it enough to get use to the trigger, feels different to what I am use to.
You Glock guys would do better, Only stricker fire gun I have shot, though have sold a few.
Not a fan of that holster that came with it, don't like that finger latch holster as I am not use to it either, and for the 30-40 rds I shot at the range , don't need it. really like the 1-2 second take down on the thing and smooth, the 5+ in barrel is nice. A bit of practice on the trigger and I think it would be a winner. And a nice looking gun.

What surprised the hell out of me is how good I could shoot that 941, it is on par with my HK P7 M13. all steel, so some weight to it.
Nice trigger, needs a bit of break in, 3 mags , nice holster, case and a heck of a good price.

ok, we made it out to the range again today, chucked another couple 100 rounds down range.
flawless function with the gun so far!

my groups where all just to the right but in a not bad spread.
we were shooting a little further then i typically do so my groups opened up a bit but good enough for these old eyes, dinner plate size.

if anyone is on the fence about this gun GET IT!
by far the best trigger out of the box of any pistol i have ever shot.... EVER!
the reset is honestly like 1mm and the break is so crisp.
the gun itself is so soft shooting, just a pure pleasure to shoot it.
i am seriously contemplating going and getting one for myself, even though i need another 9mm pistol like i need another smart ass kid at the coffee shop working the till.

here is a quick video and a couple pics.

Those definitely aren't bulls, lol.

Thanks for the review.

i know, i watch my dad and the bugger will gnaw out the center of the target and make one big hole in the middle by the end of the box.
pistols are not my strong suit, i console myself with the thought that if i was aiming at the sternum those 20-30 rounds would all be in the heart/left lung at 40 feet, which is good enough for me.

Definitely interested. I am now on the fence trying to replace my production IPSC gun from Glock17 to either

X-caliber - on the list because someone said it is a Shadow2 rival
Tp9 sfx - price vs features
P320 xfive - I already have holsters and plastic lower that will fit the reg p250 mags and already got mags
Shadow 2 -. THE IPSC gun now. Fired it. Training partner has it and I know everything about it.

I think the tp9sfx is current winning out in terms of price vs feature So if anyone would pick one from the list above would u still pick the tp9 sfx as the IPSC gun?

Had the sa...was impressive at its price point...never failed me and was pretty darned accurate...would have another...thanks for the rr...

May want to double check the production list.. tp9sfx and p320 xfive model may not be production if I recall correctly

Ahh... good point and you are right! Dang it I kinda just assume that if their other variants are production ready these are too. Well... in that case, I will just get Shadow2 then. This is the gun I think should not be allowed on production but oh well ;)

after note: DOH!!! TP9SA is not even allowed for production. Lesson to me... do my research first LOL... Well I can kinda run non-production but... no point doing with these.

I have one and it is great value for the money.

I put a Burris FastFire II on it and it hits plates @ 50 yards with ease.

Only complaint is you have to watch thumb placement on slide to make sure you don't drop slide on empty mag...but not a big deal.

Great gun for the money for sure...

Hey lavino, nice list of pistols, you hit bullseye with the X-CALIBUR,flawless and a fine piece of craftmanship, yes the flavour of the month are the new Shadows, for good reason, but definetly not one size fits all kind of pistol.
It all comes down to how feel, grip and bullet placement and the GP X provides all that and more.

was thinking about this pistol over the weekend, i did notice 1 strange thing with it.
like all my M&P's when the slide is locked back and you hammer in a new mag the slide will auto drop.
also, 1 of the 2 mags that came with it will not lock the slide back.
i found the slide release to be suppppppppppppppppper delicate.
i would look at it and it would drop - no exaggeration!
well maybe a little.....

I have not noticed that , will have to dig mine out and check it a day or so and get back to you, but I don't shoot with my thump up along the slide.

Unless funds are tight why not just buy the Walther PPQ M2 5". The Canik is a less expensive alternative and a close copy but...it is still not the PPQ. The PPQ Match allows for the Optic sight which may or may not interest you.

As most here will tell you the DA/SA is the way to go in IPSC Production. You won't shoot any better with the Shadow or more expensive Shadow2 but then the thought of winning isn't everything. The ultimate bling would be the Tanfoglio Stock111. Now there is a shooter! I have a friend who was and is a decent A/B Class shooter who runs a Stock111. I am not sure the gun did much for his shooting but there is something to be said for running the best. Hence my suggestion to take a look at the PPQ M2 5" or Match.

Take Care

Bob
ps There is nothing rationale about buying a particular pistol.
