Range Day with the new Improved .375 Ruger Alaskan

maybe apples and oranges but my TSX 286 gr 9.3 x 62 at about 2400 ft/s performed very very well on several Kudus and an Oryx

The longest was out to about 150 yds . Not all immediate one shot kills , but it sure had them on the ground long enough for you to finish them.

I recovered two bullets - both the picture perfect mushroom. One broke a Kudu's neck without a direct bone hit, just the hydraulic shock was enough - the bone was about 3 inches away.
The other Kudu was penetrated from the rear at the front hip with a raking shot moving forward and down through the top of the heart from about 30 yds. That one I found on the far side under the skin.

I gotta admit it - I am beginning to like them for the larger rifles anyway. My 30 calibers have a little more accuracy issues with them - but im working on it

One fellow (PH) had his favorite 375 HH BRNO and he shot several Kudus etc with the TSX with great results. Cant say if they were 270 or 300 gr tho. I imagine they both work just fine.

Nice Bear Gun

That McMillan looks great. Huge improvement IMO. Might have to go that route on my 375R.

Doesn't seem to have hurt the accuracy any either. Good shootstin'.;)

Gatehouse,

Looks like another winner!
I bet the McMillan is light years ahead of the stocker in terms of fit and recoil comfort!

Have you tried RL-15? It usually gives top velocity and great accuracy in the H&H....Could be worth a try.

The 270gr TSX has no expansion issues....It is actually pretty violent....We recovered one from a 200 yard (broadside) moose...Which surprised me....and should tell you something!
That giant hole in the end does its job!

I don't know how anybody got test results to back up that they don't expand??? Perhaps the density of the test medium was suspect?

My buddy shot a couple of tiny (LEH) whitetail does (in the lungs) at just under 300 yards with his 375 Ultra (A light load of RL-19 for 2900fps)...The results were devastating.

Hope the new toy brings good luck this year!

Looks like nobody on AR has had any issues with the 270TSX on game...Except one guy named Bartell:D

When I tested the older X bullets I found that the performance of the 270 gr X was identical to the 300 gr X. Expansion was the same, wound volume was the same, penetration was the same, the only difference was the muzzle velocity. It would seem reasonable to expect a repeat performance with the TSX line, but the only TSX I've shot in the .375 is the 300 gr.
