Range Finder? Any suggestions.

Hey everyone, I am looking for a good distance range finder that will pick up a animal target,(deer, elk, etc) up to 1000 yards if possible. Most that I see around are really only accurate to 300 yards ish for animals. Doese anyone know who makes or where I can aquire a good range finder for a decent price? an suggestions would be appreciated.
 
Leica 1200CRF, worth every penny. The 900CRF will read to 1000ish sometimes I have heard if you want to save a few bucks.
 
Leica and Swarovski seem to be the two best according to all of the reviews. With the Swarovski being considered the best in this price range (ie non military) and the Leica as second.

I don't mind the size. I find it easier to stabilize when holding. Plus I'm less likely to lose it. I agree about the $500 being a lot extra. When I bought mine I paid $50 more than the price of a Leica in Canada. It was one of those moments where you realized you either bought it now or never. I originally ordered the Leica and then changed my mind. One of those offers you couldn't refuse :D

With the current prices I think the Leica is a better deal.
 
X2 on the Leica CRF 1200, awesome unit in a small package. I have had Bushnells and Nikon's in the past and this little CRF blows them away optically and it actually lives up to its advertised range ability.
 
I've got the Leica, my buddy has the Swarovski. I saved some money, and he got the better instrument. I wish I'd spent the money then, now I get to spend it twice. A kinda recurring theme, that one.;) Luckily, I've got a kid to outfit.
 
i would say it depends on how much you wanna spend on one . i have the elite 1500 with arc .seems to work . fine .as i have ranged trees out to 1150 yards with it .but i have been told the lieca [has the fastest laser]and swarovski [ has the most range ].
 
I bought the Leupold RXB-IV. I wanted a rangefinder/binocular in one unit. That way I don't have to carry around two different things. I'm really impressed with the quality of the optics, very clear.

Give some thought to the new Zeiss Rangefinders. I have the Victory 8x45 RF binoculars and they're great. Very clear and I have ranged pine trees at 1545m. For less money than the Swarovski, you should consider the Zeiss Victory 8x26 T PRF. Cameraland, a site sponsor, has demo units for $629 US.
 
Stupid question:

With the magnifying optic, and the powerful laser, what's the deal with not frying your eyeballs like ants during recess?
 
The Laser projects a is Infra Red or Non visible beam laser a that a detector picks up at the target it calculates the distance from the time the you lase the Target till the time it detects and yes the Laser can cause eye damage when used inappropriately
