Looking for suggestions range finders that will work both hunting and golf I realize that it needs to be selectable type lock on to avoid it ranging the first thing it sees while hunting Looking to hopefully spend 300 or less ideally with an actual useable range of 600+ yards

Been reading on the Nikon Coolshot 20 has any one used one of these for hunting ?

Marty7.62 has a Bushnell 1500 on the EE right now. Good unit, performs very well and is about in your budget. Best of luck.

I've used a Bushnell scout 1000 for both, but eventually inherited a Bushnell golf rangefinder. Honestly anything I range on the golf course is under 250 yards so if I were you, I'd pick the range finder you want for hunting and then just take it to the golf course. I've never had a problem ranging the flag on the green, or the green itself with any rangefinder.

I've got an old Bushnell Yardage Pro that works out to 800yrds. Recently picked up a Leupold GX-2i from Golftown $349 minus $25 off coupon. Picked it up 'cause it had a slope feature. Most golf range finders with a scan mode should work. I've used my old Bushnell to scan to trees, rocks etc without problems.

Edit: Amazon.ca has the Bushnell V3 on sale for $209+tax and free shipping. They're sold out now but backorders accepted. Good out to 1K yards.

If you do get a chance to take one out for a drive try this to verify it's accuracy. Sight in on a distant object, (a building, hopefully with a known range but not really necessary) and AT LEAST 400M away. Take a reading, then take 4-5 steps back and re-range. Did it show the extra 5 steps? Take 10 steps forward, did it make the adjustment? If it displays the difference of 4-5 steps, I'd judge the unit to be reliable. I've done this test many times with a Bushnell 1500 and the results always make me happy.

Thanks for the input guys leaning towards the bushnells as they have a better range than the Nikon coolshot
Better hold off another day just case the wife bought me one
