I am looking at buying a range finder before hunting season. Ibwould like something reliable, accurate and compensates for angle. My budget is $500 max but would be happier around $300. i have had my eye on the vortex (really like their warranty ) but am open to other models. Would really appreciate hearing other peoples experiences and recommendations

Look for a used Leica LRF 800, 900, or 1200. Should be able to get one under $300 and it'll still kick the crap out of anything you could buy new for $500 and under. I still have a Leica LRF 900 that is almost 10yrs old and it still performs great. I recently bought a Vectronix PLRF 15 so the old girl had been relegated to the golf bag ;). Unlike most other brands the Leicas are capable meeting or exceeding their yardage ratings. I have ranged reflective objects at 1100m+ with mine (LRF 900) regularly. I've personally tried other brands that cant reliably range half of what they are rated to.
