Range Idiots

Who in their right mind would stand close enough to penetrate the face a steel collum with a 45ACP? ?:onCrack:

Cops.
At one of the ranges I goto the ground was full of spent brass, and even quite abit of live ammo (RCMP issue) approx 5' - 10' away from steel gongs which were shot to crap.

Someone blew the s**t out of the 25 yard stands wiht shotgun and rifle fire. I'm not 100% sure it wasnt' the cops, though..
We rent our range out to the cops and the local prison guards for training, at least we did until the State Firearms Registry banned us from doing so but I'll save those dark tales for another thread.
Anyhow, the cops were a complete shocker.
We'd find spent cases in the beams of the roof, live ammo lying out at different parts of the range and shotgun wads lying around.
Keep in mind our range was only licenced for rifle fire.
Clearly they just banged away with pistols and semi-auto rifles and shotguns, made a cursory effort to clean up a bit of what they could see and then buggered off.
The money was good and fortunately we didn't have fixed target frames but they were pretty bad tenants if you get my drift.
A civilian group would've been out on their arse in a second.

Besides the amount of damage they leave behind, IMHO any range that rents time out to gun grabbing cops are traitors to the firearms community...

RCMP (Except one young buck who gave us attitude) & EPS members were outstanding & friendlier than most that I have encountered at all ranges.

Beware of the guys who are regulars & think they own the place...

The cops are just doing thier jobs...

Since they rent out the range for $250 per day, i don't care that much if they blow up $30 of lumber over thier 5 day stint...Just woudl have liked to have known it.
:)

We didn't get that much but it was nice and constant.
I just couldn't get over how much unfired ammo the police left around and how they blazed away without seeming to have much purpose.
The prison wardens seemed to be a better lot.
Mind you the police academy cadets train at the local pistol range and when a really big group went through recently the Police Dept sank $11 GRAND into the pistol clubs facilities for letting them use it every weekday 9am to 5pm for about 3 months.
The place is amazing now.

Okay,m let me rephrase this, as I have more time now..

I don't view ALL cops as "gun grabbers"

I don't view ALL cops as *anything* actually.

I don't take #### form the police, as I know what is right and wrong, and I know what my rights are. However, I don't go out of my way to annoy them either.

The RCMP need a range to certify, once a year or so. They pay us $250 a day (which is our standard rate) for exclusive use of the range.

There have been a number of cops in this area that are damn good police officers, and a few of them I count as friends. One guy in particular was a friend long before he was a cop....There are poor ops in the mix, of course, but there are poor gun owners too...

I have done as much as the next guy for the "firearms community" and to suggest I am some sort of "traitor" for allowing our range to be used for thier qualifications suggests complete ignorance.

I have a problem with this one too. We extend our range not only to the RCMP, but to the CO's, Parks Canada, and the Canadian Rangers. All of these outfits are required to hold annual qualification shoots, and to not extend the use of the range to them would benefit no one.

But if you label me a traitor to the firearms community, consider that during the Martin handgun ban fiasco I put out several thousand dollars of my own money which I could scarcely afford, to support the organizations which are fighting for our rights. I've written letters to politicians to help steer them in the right direction, and I've worked with out little club here to put on shoots to raise local interest in the shooting sports. - what have you done to support the firearm community?

Common now be reasonable. Are the people who work for the Feds responsible for the ####ty laws? Why would you hold local or provincial employees responsible?

Why ?

I not getting it...

I read post after post about guys not willing to put in the time shooting OR people flying off lead in the bush during hunting season.

These guy's find their way to a range, buy a membership and rattle off some shots (and their teeth), only to be condemned as being idiots. Sounds as if the rifles may have been new or maybe they were. Bottomline is, is that they're 'working it out'.

This is bad..... Why?????

I believe that I can answer this question, we have characters of this ilk who are similarly despised, it is not because of their equipment or that they shoot infrequently, they are despised because they will not take the time to learn how or(more importantly) why to shoot, the fact that they have the temerity to believe that cannons make them dangerous does not help either.
Regards, J Stuart.

While my comment may have been more pragmatic then usual, I can't help feeling that there is a ring of truth to it, as in the end it will not be a Federal politician at your door to take your guns, turn your house inside out, and steal your computer.

The day a police agency marches in the street to protect my rights as a firearms owner is the day I will think otherwise, but no they march in the streets of Toronto over the issue of what Hat they can wear instead.

Next time you meet one of your friend cops ask him or her point blank what they personally intend to do if they get the order to take our guns away...the answers might surprise you.

The police and Brinks, the CO's etc. use our range, but have to obey OUR rules.
The RCMP are no longer allowed to use our indoor range because of the extensive damage they caused some years ago.
I don't believe it was an official practice squad, but I may be wrong.
They turned out the lights then rolled a ball downrange and tried to shoot iit with their pistols and flashlights.

Many thousands of dollars of damage later, and a high water alarm shot up, I was told it was a "prescribed practice method".
I told the person that said that, that although he could bull#### some people , I had a little more experience in "perscribed practice methods" that he was aware of , and I knew for a fact that was not one of them, especially at our range!

They are no longer allowed as a force , to use the indoor range, period.

They can use our outdoor range, but they cannot linger after the qualifications are over unless they are accompanied by the firearms officer of the day , or they have a membership themselves.

As far as enforcing firearms law (illegal firearams, mags, etc) if they are on the range and one shows up, tough, they will do their job.
I myself will not report anyone using this stuff, but there are many cops that are members , and they will .
RCMP are not all bad, just some of the idjits that wear the uniform are....

Do you hate the postman too, Calum?

We don't have a postman...just a rural post box office, and I often have gun parts and guns waiting to be handed to me by a nice lady...so no. :D

Now I have a greater concern...to me this looks like a perfect place for a Bear to ambush someone on the way to the 100 yard mark with targets in their hands, and beef jerky in their pockets.

 :runaway: :D

Gatehouse, no offense intended but that is the most piss poor excuse for a range I have ever seen!

As far as the cops " just doing there jobs", that statement is literally a "cop out". I wonder if any of the Jewish people in Europe said that when the police where registering them and their property, then later confiscating their property, then later arresting them and shipping them off for "security reasons".
