Hey Phil, with a custom 700 Remington in 375 Chatfield Taylor and a Winchester model 70 Super Express in 375 H&H,;) I have little need or desire for a 375 Ruger:p. What I was talking about to Greg was concerning a rifle I purchased from him that I think is a perfect match for Blacktail, ;)here on the 'wet coast'. It's a Ruger RSI Lipsey Hawkeye in 7x57 Mauser, stainless and wood, again, just the right match for here on the Island:d.
 
I forgot to mention that it never even occured to me that Id never seen a 30cal in a x57 case. What a novel idea. Split the difference between an '06 and 308. Sound like perfection in a 30cal to me.

Ive come across now a few mentions of it and similar over the years but it’s an oddball for sure with some good things going for it. Nice rifles by the way.

Two very neat cartridges. I love my 35 Whalen but I’m not sure I could handle that 358-375 ruger with full house 225 or 250 grain bullets. It will be the hammer of Thor on anything that walks this continent. Very nice looking guns, thanks for sharing

Mail is slow, so slow in-fact it predates the pandemic.

This brass however should enable speed “ludicrous speed”

The 7.62 appears to be simply a 308 run in 6mm deep and it does, more or less, split the difference between the 308 and 30/06. I first tried this in about 1998 (I called it the 7.62x57 FC) and liked the result. I still have a new Hart barrel so chambered. Really, what it does, is allow you to get just a little bit extra velocity, over the 308, without running pressures too high. I like the 35/375 Ruger but would just as soon chamber the 35 Newton which would be fairly close performance-wise, and has the classic name going for it. Still, it's nice to see guys having fun with wildcats!
 
A friend of mine up here barreled up a rifle to 8X57 necked down to 6.5 for silhouette shooting. He did very well with it, too. When guys asked him why he didn't just do a 6.5X55, he said because anybody can get one of those. ;)

Pretty sure he still has the reamer.

Excellent read.

I've been gearing up to dabble in some "common" wildcat cartridges now that I have a few quick change rigs built up.. for the price of a barrel and chamber/shoulder, I can play around with anything.

Really enjoying reading about these two!
