Range report "finally" , With the M305 i've been preparing. So the Good & The bad ..

So I popped into the range while its in the +*C weather (+6*C today gloomy though).
And decided id sight in this M305 that i've been putting together for a while now.

I have some good and some bad results.

The Good
------------------
1. The rifle cycled and fired every round perfectly from round 1 , Smooth(er) as/than any semi ive ever shot, No fail to ejects or any other weirdness.
2. My handloads Used were just for sighting in but using the same OAL , brass ,primers and powder in a medium load and what not as the ladder workups that i've been holding onto its a good sign that no issues presented with them and casings/primers looked perfect.
3. I got the Rifle sighted in but admittedly only at about 20 Yards It is sighted in (more on this in the negatives).
4.The Trigger felt perfect to me, It broke easily and surprised me once or twice. Definitely no creep and nothing like other milsurps ive shot.

The Bad
-----------------
1. Well First shot was dead on @ 4"high 4" to the right @ 20Yards - You can understand most issues from that point being- @ 100Yards that is 20" of adjustment which for Shooting high isnt nessisarly a bad thing as it
gives me more adjustment for longer range (i think :p) but this lead tooo.
2. I ran completely out of adjustment to the left with my Bushnell elite Tactical 5-15x40mm , As soon as i shot the first shot and it was 4" to the right i kind of knew that was going to happen but I hoped that the boxes 40" of adjustment meant either way not 20" left and 20" right but it was as i feared so now i have to figure out how im going to adjust this M14.ca Casm mount to the left so i can somewhat zero the scope I wouldnt mind it retaining the up down as is though I emailed M14.ca about this maybe they have a solution as i did follow the mounting instructions to the letter.
3. Worst part - I stepped in someones Dog poop while finding one of my brass in the snow.. Real nice , Yea bring your dog out to the range and let it crap all over the place , No don't pick that up let someones boot do the work for you. (ive said it before , say it again , People who don't pick up their dogs poop should be publicly caned ! ).

So in the end the rifle functions fine at least so that gorilla is off my back.
But ill likely be redoing this initial site in.
I'm in no hurry as when i do go do my handload testing it will take me more time than a quick trip to the range after work anyhow.
Hopefully their is a quick fix for this side to side adjustment issue.

Rifle in Question is this

Looks nice. Obvious question but I will ask it. Did you zero the scope before mounting? I had the same problem with mine but it was due to mount being crooked. My mount is a Springfield style with windage screw.

The stock / Grip felt great.
The funny thing is the last shot i took is perfect as can be....... but its the last click on the adjuster.

hope i don't need Zee rings.
Just bought these Leupolds for this last weekend.
Also Just finished buying Zee's for the 303 Enfield Last weekend as well.
Between the Zee rings and the 6 insert pack was about 100$ or close too it.

I hope your just joking because that may be the dumbest thing i heard all month.
A. this actually has not 1 thing to do with the scope its the alignment of the rail most likely.Or the Sight pocket isnt quite strait on the Norinco M305
B. nothing at all wrong with Bushnell Elite series scopes for the $ they are the best in their price range usually.

Its not like i bought a banner or something super low end its a 500+$ scope, Its not the highest end scope and not low end either.

It's funny when somebody else slips in the dog chit but a totally different situation when it happens to you. I pick up the logs my vicious devil dogs leave behind. I dunno why others don't. Compared to some of the bombs I have dropped - dog turd is child's play.

Take note men: watch out for land mines - especially when shooting from the prone position.

really stinks when your heat in your truck is on the floor when you first get in Also.

had to wash what i couldn't get off with snow in the tub since its winter and not able to hook up a garden hose lol!

Caning i tell you , Bad pet owners should be caned !

hahahahhahaha you stepped in poop

Anyways, just curious, did you almost run out of clicks on your scope at 20 yards? I can barely dial it in at 25 because I can't click it down enough.

yea i was literally like 2 clicks from bottoming out at 20.
but that's ok
more worried about this pointing left stuff.
I remounted the scope rail indexing it from the right side of the sight pocket this time but i still have to test it out.

lol yah it was a joke.... but on that note id personally go with a Nikon or Vortex LONG before id trust a Bushnell....

lol I really hope the answer isn't going to involve you buying another scope with more adjustment clicks like I did (twice)

I wont be buying another scope for a alignment issue. I would only gain a few clicks of adjustment anyways with that kind of thinking. The point of the Tactical turrets was to be able to do wind and bullet drift adjustments at range.
At max adjustment i was getting Perfectly lined up shots If i was just setting and forgetting it would have worked fine for that.

What did you hear from M14.ca about adjusting the mount or shimming the sight pocket?

M14.ca Email Reply 1:

It could be that the inner wall of the rear sight pocket is not straight, putting the mount off that far.
Note that this problem is simply not present otherwise in M14 rifles across a 4000 rifle sample.
If this is indeed the problem, you would need to install a shim and reinstall.
If you have a pencil thin wood dowel 1 meter long, you can place it on top of the mount after you have shimmed it.
(Any other long stick ruler, etc., will do in order to verify bore alignment).
I hope that helps.

M14.ca Reply 2:
We index to the left side as a matter of policy only, you can index to the right for the same result: that is a good idea as well.
Worst case scenario should be to shim.

So i reindexed from the Right and it looks correct but will still require testing to see I dont have a laser bore sighter around , Never had a issue this big on alignment though on basically any rifle.
Usually i can just sight in with 3 or so shots and its done.

little update -
After re-indexing issue remained.
tried shimming (not that much could even be fitted in the near exact rear pocket) but issue remained.

Finally broke down and got some Burris Zee rings - and offsets - This should fix the issue in theory anyways since it provides 20" of adjustment with the offsets i got , Sucks the pack costs near 100$ for the rings and offsets but not a big deal in the end they are good rings.

Well weather is finally getting warmer so this spring should be alot more fun.
