Well I went out and did some bench shooting with hand loads and a m305 I am trying to decide on a load for the 168 and the results are just shy of 2" at 100 with a scope and bipod should I look for better groups or just make some ammo and shoot the dam thing ... Maby do some more work to the rifle ?

Try it off a bench with sandbags. My one is shooting close to 1MOA with a quick nasty 150gr load I cooked up. This is basically unmodded, it's in a USGI stock, I shimmed the gas system and peened the op rod guide shoulder to tighten the guide up. I have a Badger NM spring guide inbound, waiting for customs to stop molesting my package. That sounds bad. Anyway, try fine tuning it. What is your load and set up? My 150gr load is: 150gr Hornady SP, PPU case, 43gr AR2206H(H4895), WLR primer, COL 2.7"ish. I tried some 168gr A max with 41gr 2206H and it was getting 1.7-2". Once I get some Lapua brass and my spring guide I'm gonna get serial with the load development.

Tagged for interest. I also want to start reloading for my norc. We're getting similar results op. check out my thread I started a couple days ago with my results. 15 shot group 2 inches at 100yards iron sights and from prone no bipod  I was using 150 gr Winchester I believe and some left over Chinese surplus.

Ps yes I used this as an opportunity to brag but I do want to scope mine and start reloading .308 :D

My loads were 168gr smk RP brass cci br2 primer and I have been trying many powders IMR 4895 4064 and 8208
The IMR 4895 I tried 41 gr and 41.5 and it was the worst of the bunch the IMR 4064 I used 41.5 and 42.5 with about the same results 2" horizontal string the IMR 8208 at 41.5 has been the most accurate just under 2" my bolt gun likes this powder and bullet loaded to 42.5 gr but I was to chicken to try it in the m305 groups with the 8208 have been the best but all the spread is horizontal ... Maby a gun issue

Is your op rod guide tight and does your gas lock tighten at 6 o'clock? I also found the last group I shot with the 168's was a horizontal string, funny that. If it's shooting horizontal consistently it's an issue with the harmonics of the rifle I'd say. My one also demonstrates slight horizontal stringing with my 150gr load, but I think that might be normal for these. Maybe a case of tuning the powder charges and seating depths slightly. Consistent 2" groups isn't actually terrible for what the rifle is.

My gas lock could be tighter when I flipped it it was to tight so I put it back the way it was and cut some shims that came with my flash comp but they were kinda to small and I dissent have the right amount to make the gas lock as tight as it should be I was thinking about filing the contact side of my gas lock so it can turn to 6 o'clock tightly, or just get the proper shim kit , I peened the oprod tight and in line with the cylinder also I have a round spring guide

2" groups are respectable with the m305 my rifle shoots 5" groups with hornady steel match ammo ! I think I can squeeze them down to 1.5 MOA !
