hi guys..
im thinking about buying a saiga in 7.62x39
below is a pic from NZs biggest gunstore advertising the accuracy .

it looks to me like a good result with the federal ammo ..
but i have no experience with this platform or ammo..

so what you guys think ? good ?

Lucky bum!!! Here in Canada the Saiga is a variant and prohibited as an ak... Those groups look GREAT for the 7.62x39...

Cheers
Jay

the rifle pictured is 7.62 Nato chambered , they couldnt tell me how it groups as they havent had the chance to group one yet.
im expecting it to be very similar to the above results, but what you guys think ?

my saiga shotguns have all been exellent quality compared to the chinese aks that we have here, i havent fired / handled a saiga rifle yet though, but i dont think im hoping too much in expecting the same kinda of outward quaility, the preformance is where my doubt comes in, as you say its doubtful that an ak will maintain that kind of regularity, but then again, these have a bit more QC than the mess produced AK.

i have shot alot of 7.62 out of a ak and ton on 5.45 out of an ak74, even with the 74 that shoots ten times better than the reg ak it would be hard to do those types of groups that they are claiming with the federal ammo.

An AK with a decent barrel will shoot good groups if fed good ammo.

Surplus ammo is generally #### for accuracy. Commercial ammo can be better, but some is just "blaster grade". An AK fed hand loads using high quality bullets will surprise you.

Back when we were freer and could still take an AK to the range my buddy could repeatedly shoot 1.5" groups at 100 yards with his Norinco side folding AK (in 7.62x39) - but that only happened with hand loads that used .311" or .312" bullets from Hornady and Sierra. Norinco ammo gave 4" or 5" groups from the same gun.

I would ask your supplier if he can get the saiga ver.21 with the wooden thumbhole stock. It is a much nicer rifle with a better trigger and is more comfortable.
