Range Test Results On Ceramic Plates Are In!

I have some green tips on the way, and some spare lvl3 steel I use for my jogs.

I'd be happy to test it out myself one day, although I saw a faaaair number of videos on youtube of greentip NOT going through lvl3 steel....lol

Yes your right I have never seen green tip ever penetrate anything that's is actually rated level 3. The only reason the green tip has even a chance is because these plates are 20+ years old.

I saw some videos of it going through composite level 3+ armour, but steel armour is a different story....

Yes, i will have to concede that I should have said “plate” not steel. Moreso likely to go through composite/ceramic, but back to my point, i think they will make it through these plates. They are still great plates though, as most are buying probably dont plan on heing shot at. Heck I certainly dont hope I find my self on the receiving end of a pellet gun let alone anything with some pep behind
It.

Could this not be mitigated, by sticking a soft level 3A insert behind it?
My thinking is, that even if the green tip gets through, it will be almost depleted of it's energy so the 3A should be able to catch it (I woud think)
Not only that, but it would also provide additional protection as far as more evenly distributing the impact force and softening the blow.

My experience have been different, ceramic plates perform very well and steel very poor. Differing opinions makes this more fun anyways I'm excited for the results lol. I will say tho I don't think these plates are ceramic

I think they are some sort of a polypropylene & fiberglass mix.

I think it all depends on who the manufacturer is. I have seen really high end ceramic do well but the chinese steel and hybrid plates are hit and miss. Some of the Israeli stuff is inconsistent too.

I have zero experience in these poly plates.

There is absolutly nothing available anymore. This is crazy how fast everything was bought up. All of our suppliers have been cleaned out. We are going to be testing an idea to see if it works with attaching some curved plates, but we will not know for about 3 weeks if we will be able to offer this.

We may be melting down wheel rims to make body armor at this rate!

Does this mean no green-tip test? :(

Maybe some of these are on their way back to Europe? I think most euro sources armor will be non existent for a few years to come.

I am happy with my plates - just dont want to use one for testing. Did you guys do the greentip test?

I think one of the things contributing to some of the plates stopping the 855 is that they are using barrels under 18 inches and dont get the velocity.

Guys...could you please check your PM?
Thank you.

I have this strange feeling these poor plates didn't pass the green tip test

Either way, level 3 isn't rated for 5.56 regardless

If they do pass, I will be very impressed! If they don't, I have heavyweight ar500 level 4 steel that would do the job.
