Howdy all. I am looking to get my first rangefinder. I am looking primarily in the $600 range, and at such models as the Nikon MONARCH 7i VR and the Leupold RX-1200i TBR/W w/ DNA. I've played with both models and they work really well, but I am looking for some advice on other models or brands, or which of the two to go with. Between those two, the Nikon has image stabilization (which is like the coolest thing ever, imo) but it lacks illumination. Conversely the Leupold is illuminated, but not stabilized. I think illumination on scopes is worthless, but it seems a nice feature on rangefinders. Opinions?

Basic needs and wants:
Must be accurate and be good quality ("Last a lifetime" and all that)
Must have constant scanning ability
Must have the reticle stay up when the ranging button is pressed. I handled some Leicas and the reticle disappeared after pressing the button. But they were plenty used and messed with.
Must work with glasses on! To many of these damn things are worthless while wearing glasses.
Tripod mountable would be nice

So, any advice or suggestions?

From Bushnell to Leica my experience says rangefinders are field effective to 3/8-1/2 their stated max range. Cheap ones for archery or golf. $$ for rifle shooting past 500yds.

I'm gonna say Sig Kilo 2000 even though its still relatively new so the "Last a lifetime" demand is tough to say right now but I do believe they have a lifetime warranty.

Cost = $629 taxes in shipped to my door from Prophet river last week. They have a Black Friday sale on this week as well.
I've scanned hills and it is lightning fast. Farthest I scanned was a tv tower 1650 yards away. I also ranged a horse at 903 last weekend.
Reticle stays up for 5-10 seconds once you've pressed the button
It has an adjustable diopter as well as an extendable eye relief ring around the lens for glasses
LRI makes a tripod mounting bracket for the Sig Kilo 2000.

Sig Kilo.

Bought one a few months ago just to compare it to my Terrapin, routinely got readings out to 2500 yds on reflective objects.

Extremely fast readings. A great unit for the price.

Sig kilo 2000 is the best on the market for anything close to that asking price in my opinion. You can get better if you are willing to spend thousands of dollars, but these units have really upped the game in the rangefinder market.

I picked one up a few weeks ago and have been very impressed with it compared to all other offerings. Already ranged easily in both single and hyperscan mode out to 1750m while handheld on buildings and hydro towers.

How isn't the eye relief on the SIG? It needs to be glasses compatible for me.

Also I work I. Industry and plan to take advantage of some of our deals. I'll have to see if SIG is on the list.

I just bought a Leica 1000 this summer, I was fairly unimpressed with it ranging things inside 200 yds or so. Took it out hunting and it did range anything I needed it to out to 1000yds which is more then I need. So as a hunting range finder it suits my needs. If the Sigs were more plentiful when I was looking I would have and probably should have got the Sig.

Just FYI, Nikon Prostaff 7i (so not the VR) at Cabelas for 299$ (until Dec 14) and Nikon Canada has a rebate for 40$ (until Dec 30) via their online form.

Certainly not a SIG Kilo ...
