Rangefinder dilema....

I have tried both the G7 and Terapin, neither come close to the Swarovski in terms of optical quality. As far as ranging is concerned, the Swarovski is dated in terms of technology and features. The ranging capability is still better than most though.

We have an older set of vectronix here that I just had out back ranging an appartment block that showed 2733m +/- 2m over 20 readings taken...

I like my vortex. But if your serious about reaching out past 1000, a Leica or a Vectronix Terrapin is the way to go.

Hahahahahahahah ... You put Leica in the same category as Vectronix , Good one ! Leica cant touch my True Pulse G7 , let alone Vectronix

Not knocking the New Leica 1600B ... It is sick but ... its no Vectronix

Ive got the Bushy Gforce.

For fur the best Ive done so far was 500 on a cow. I mostly bought it for yotes, but havent had much ranging time with them yet. As for shooting it at trees and hills I think the best its done so far has been around 900-1000. Not to many shiny trees around here. :p

Ive gotten 3200 yards on a crystal clear summer day ranging the B.C ferries " GIANT WHITE METAL PLATE " crossing to Vancouver. The G7 regularily ranges 1800-2000 on good days to stumps and trees. It will range 1000 yards in blowing snow so dense that you can hardly see the 1000 yards.

I noticed in heavy, heavy fog the G7 struggled where my Leica dosnt. But im talking fog so heavy you don't need a range finder ... so its really not relevant

I don't think The G7 will out range Vectronics but its not far behind a Terripan , But the Weather, arc and ballistic calculations it does out to 1400 yards is outstanding.

I love my G7 to death. Think im going to grab a Leica 1600B for my Dad for Christmas ... More than adequate for him to say the least

Newcon 2200 SI under a grand canadian made good for 2200m consistently ranges 1800 -2000 on non reflective targets the 1500m is around $325 and good for 1500m they work awesome the si model measures speed of, distance and inclie to target newcon makes gear for the military, its good ####

I cannot talk about all of them, but I have the leica crf1600 for about 2 years and it will give you your 1000yards in almost any conditions and up to 1700 on rock cliff in good conditions(clowdy, no rain,no fog)
and it fits in your pocket
combined with a kestrel and applied ballistics software, you should be all set

For what it's worth... I'm happy with my Zeiss. It does what I want him to do... which is tell me how far my intended target is. I now live in the boonies with no formal range near by, but plenty of open space.
Got it from Doug (http://www.cameralandny.com/)

Same here. I'm not really concerned about ranging skyscrapers or ships. I like the fact it works on deer sized animals, in other words hunting.
