rangefinder questions

I have read everything I can find on rangefinders on CGN. But I still have some questions. First I only hunt in the winter time for wolf and coyotes, that means snow on the ground as a back drop. I never shoot more than 600 yards and most of the time temp is -5 to -20. I don't care if the rangefinder can range a building or a big rock at 1000-1500 yards, I'm not shooting at building or large rocks. What I'm looking for is info on some thing that will range a wolf out to 600 yards with snow as a back ground. I have used my mil-dot in the past, but hard to do that on a moving target at 600 yards.
 
i find that most Leicas will range calves and or coyotes at that distance with a snow backdrop
that being said all of the models i have used needed to be stationary to get a range (you can't be "sweeping" a moving target and get a reading basically)
i find what works best is to range any area where your intended targt may be coming from and then knowing that distance you are prepared to shoot when they appear moving or not...
 
I have compared a buddy's Swaro to my Leica. The Swaro will range farther than my 1200 but the reticle is larger and I found it harder to range small objects. His Swaro has also been sent in for repair twice so far, took several weeks to get it back, however it was repaired at no charge even though technically it was off warranty

I have a Swaro and a Leica 1200 Scan. If the weather is clear and I am not shooting loooonngg distances, I take the Leica. It ranges faster and teh readout is easier to see in daylight. However, if there is any precipitation falling, I take the Swaro. Optics are better on the Swaro, it ranges in all weather conditions, and it ranges farther. It does take longer to range though, and the readout can get lost in sunny days (orange reticle and orange readout - stupid idea for sunny parts of the world).

As a side note, I leave my binos in the truck a lot more when carrying the Swaro. The optics are that good.

I have the 1600, it's great it ranges rocks and buildings at 1300m all day long, and I don't shoot them either, if it ranges rocks and trees at longer ranges than you shoot you will have no problems with coyotes at your shootable ranges.

I'd go for a more power than you need, if you get a 600y rated unit you will be disappointed

i have the leica crf 1200.nice compact unit . ive ranged over 1300 yards with mine .it seems to range farther when its cloudy outside .ive been thinkin of upgrading to the crf 1600
 
Don't know, but going to read all about them. When I phoned the local sporting goods store the lady said that is what they had in stock. On Saturday I'm going to drive down and have a look see and see what kind of price they have.
