Im thinking about picking up a rangefinder

Looking at the Vortex Ranger and the Bushnell GForce 1300 right now. This will be my max price range

Want something for 500+yrd for fur
Something with angle correction

I think Im leaning towards the Bushnell right now. Really like the Vortex warranty though. I hear they are coming out with a new one this year.

Your thoughts?

The Leica 1600 from Wolverine is one of the best for $775.00 very clear optics.I bought one and its way better than my 1500ARC The Bushnell struggles with 4-500 on deer. was out with the Leica fooling around with it on the weekend cows at 1367 YRDs ranged antelope at 780yrds and also 920yrds A huge rock at 1800YRDS

NIce. I do know everyone likes the Leica rangefinders, but I cant drop that kind of cash for one of them one right now. :)

Ive read some mixed reviews about hitting fur more then 500 with them. Some can and some wont. Shouldnt there be some kind of standard for them? Or is it just the conditions its being used in at the time?

thx

I had a Bushnell, one of their top models, can't remember the model but it was $400.00 and it didn't focus correctly from new, I ended up returning it.

Thanks guys for all the posts so far.

Thanks TV for the video. I did see this on youtube a ways back when I first was looking at the Vortex.

Another thought...
What do you guys think of idea of shooting the rangefinder at a tree your deer is standing beside or even the hill its standing on for a good means of measurement???

Do people do that with great success? I know it aint as accurate as shooting the animal itself, but when you can afford the top tier could this be a option?

I know it aint much but I want to me able to hit anything I choose up to 600. Not that Im going to take that shot though. :D

I just ordered a Newcon 1800S from Tactical Imports. I have been ranging buildings, cars, ground, trees, in lowlight, bright sunlight, rain and snow, through glass and a screen door all the way out to 1160 meters so far with no problems. I have not tried it on any animals yet. The glass is not as clear as the Swaroski, but I only paid $500 for it new. It does not have the angle compensator, but the next model up for $900 does and will go out to 2200m apparently. I am really happy with mine so far. It is a little bulky, but I will gladly trade that for a reliable rangefinder past 1k. My Leupy sucked.

Hey thanks for the good info Schecter. Sounds like like you got a good deal on a nice rangerfinder.

Well I was out checking on the Bushnell and couldnt pass on the 375 price tag, so I picked her up. It should be enough to get my feet water in the rangefinder department. :D Looks like Im going to have to head out sometime this week and see how she works on the yotes.

About two years ago I purchased second hand a Lieca 1200 CRF from the optics EE. No complaints here.

Thanks to TV Press Pass, I just remembered 2 things I wish to mention about the Lieca CRF. I also find it somewhat annoying that there is no threaded adapter for tripod use on a range. And the cheap plastic lanyard was half cut when I purchased it. I immediately removed it and replaced it with an around the neck lanyard that is made and sold for waterfowl hand callers. The braided 550 cord is substantial and strong. Gives one a warm&fuzzy knowing you expensive optic is secure on your person and easy to get to.

We have Leica CRF 1600-B rangefinders for $725 and Rangemaster 1000-R units for $525 while they last.

Fantastic deals. I've had leupold and cheap rangefinders, wish I would have seen this deal on the 1000r. I picked up a NIB 1200 crf on ebay for a little less, and cannot stress enough the superiority over bushnell arcs, leupold rxii, 1/2 dozen cheapie brands I have tried. The leica will range smaller items and even flat ground where others would not read at all. I hit deer to 600, patches of grass to 1298. One of the most surprising things was that even the leupold would not range thru glass/windows. The leica will range thru the angled glass on the windshield. It ignores anything within 10 yards and will range thru the window, between the slats in horizontal blinds!

Couldn't be happier. The 1600b with weather/angle/drop calculations looks good, would like to try one one day...
