Ive gotten to test three high end LRF in the last few days, and would like to pass on my observations to you guys.

Leupold RXIII - Ranges trees out to 800 yards, handy, compact, light etc. Poor optics, dark, not too clear at all. Overly complicated, with set up making you want to pull my hair out. Modes for giving both MOA drop or Inches of holdover for various cartridges. Has the angle compensator too, which is good. $590, overall I give it a 5.5 out of 10

Bushnell Elite 1500 ACR - Ranged trees so far out to 1180 yards. Very simple, 2 buttons. Has angle compensator and bullet drop holdover too, out to 600 yards. optics are decent, but nothing spectacular. Scan mode, brush mode, and target mode (for smaller stuff). Its camo, and is pretty handy too. I really like this model. $520, I give it a 8 out of 10 :D

Swarovski LRF - so far Ive ranged stuff to the same distance as the 1500 elite, 1180 yards on a poplar tree. Handy unit, light and compact. Optics are very VERY good, much closer to a high end binocular than your usual rangefinder. easy to use, one button. display is red, which is kinda hard to see in the daytime, but would work awesome in low light (as would the optics!). scan mode is another great feature. no angle function or bullet drop etc. Price is $1099...overall I give it a 7 out of 10...:)

soon I hope to try the Leica 1200 Rangemaster, and will let you guys know how I like it.

so far, bang for the buck, the Elite 1500 is pretty wicked :D

Good info. That confirms what I've heard elsewhere - the Bushy's are hard to beat.

I am curious about the Leica, thoug

I just got a Bushnell yardage pro binos and although rated for 1300M, I have yet to have it read over 400. Glass is nice but the LRF is crap

It's going to eBay.

the Bushnell Legend is ok, will hit trees at 800 yards or so I think

ranged a tree at 1320 yards today with the Swarvoski...the Elite 1500 couldnt get a reading on it  :D

My current favorite and a best seller in our shop is the Nikon 1200. Best lock time than any other unit I tried. Even lazered a small plane.

strange. I was using a leica at a gun shop, and coulnd get anything above 550ish. A 1200 leica. I didnt get it. It could have been the angle of an object as it was streetways, and then off in the distance another parkway and roof's. I dont have the money now for a spotter, and dont know what to get. I have heard good things about the bushnell's, but except for what I experianced I loved the leica.

Can't beat the Leica 1200; bright, clear and accurate.
Very simple to use also.:D

+1

I use mine for hunting and have ranged deer at 1000m no problems. They may be on the more expensive side but you get what you pay for. You cant beat them for reproduceable long range results.

just my 2 cents...

The Leica LRF series has come down a bit in price:

Hopefully the Elite I just ordered will give me good performance.:)

For what its worth....I purchased the Elite 1500 last year and it's been great. I have changed batteries once and I use it almost every day just playing around with it. It comes everywhere with me. I have found the optics to be a shade on the dark side yet still very clear and high contrast. It has an automatic green light that comes on in low light so you can read the distance. I have ranged as far out as 426 yards at midnight to a house down my street. That impressed me. I have also ranged red boat bouys as far as 1630 yards.....maybe this was a mis-read...but the bouy looked waaayyy out there. Just about anything red in colour picks up super fast and accurate. On really bright sunny days, mine won't read too far beyond 1100 yards on things like rocks, trees, animals, shorelines. Boats and other vehicles will pick up okay as well as most buildings. I absolutely highly reccommend it.

cant comment there, never seen em!

I think it costs like $50 a peek just to look through them.

If I can just talk my wife into having a baby strictly for the purpose of selling or maybe giving up one of her kidneys I may actually be able to afford a pair some day.
