Rangers get their SCAR

The scar look awesome. It is about time the US fixed the abortion that is the AR. :D

(It was never the best choice, as the AK and 7.62x39 was and maybe still is superior.)

But at least with 30 years and billions of dollars and thousands of lives, finally the US has caught up to Russian AKs. It's about fricken time. The FAL was badass the Ar was a mistake. (Fine for sporting, not for war.)

/Armchair off.

Oh boy, I sense this thread will become a "AK/AR is better than the AR/AK" thread. Sigh...

Seems like the SCAR needs some work, but nothing is made perfect. I like the comments on the review, though :p

I think the scar would look really cool without that fugly lookin stock ! Not my bag really ,looks kinda like one of those toy guns you would buy at the dollar store :p

I think it's a great looking gun. Hopefully it will work out for them. I don't think that too many people have been shot dead because they couldn't return fire with a dirty m-16 or m-4 since the vietnam era. I think the ar-15 platform is well proven and if they were doing a total swap. i.e. new caliber and new gun, then it would deserve some trumpeting.

Otherwise what is the advantage of this gun over say the g36 - k or c model? That gun has all the features (reliability and wear life) and has a great set of battle sights available. The problem it seems is that nobody really knows what is wrong and how to fix it (it isn't quite broken). The operators know what works for them but the supply and retooling is just so damn expensive to do so the army will milk the 5.56 for a long time.

the whole issue with the 5.56 came down to length and twist of barrel to keep that bullet just on the edge of stability (hence the impressive damage achievable by the cavitation in a body), it worked well with the 1/14 twist. but then they went to the 1/12 to keep the air force happy in the cold (bullets didn't stabilize). that right there was the mistake. Then with those tacti-cool m4's running 12" barrels the bullet now doesn't go fast enough to do the damage needed to kill a human being unless the shot placement is excellent.

You can cover a new barrel with all sorts of cool kit, but the reality is unless they drastically change the round, ie 69 or 75 grain and match the barrel your terminal ballistics still suck. woohoo a fancy new gun with the same terminal ballistic problems.... oh and the stock folds.
