I really wanted one of there 4 years ago. Now I could care a less, I love my AR15 and I'd rather keep it over take the new SCAR.

Is this change for the sake of change or does this rifle provide a significant advantage over the current AR/M16 platform that they are using? I am assuming that this rifle is still chambered in 5.56X45. The whole tactical fashion show mentality has gone too far.

And im pretty sure the SCAR has rounds like 6.8 in mind when they designed it.

If the US Army (or whomever) DOES decide to change calibers (although unlikely) the SCAR looks like it has the beef in the bolt to do it without sacrificing anything.

They also seem to have a BFD or something on that muzzle.

I do not like that front sight setup, with it flipping forward make for a good "get caught" on everything in the bush.

My opinion of this rifle is still out for debate, I like the side cocking, I am not a fan of the stock (prefer a UBR).

All of which does not matter in the least. One artillery burst with a proximity detonated warhead negates the tactical trinkets and pretty costume. You're still thinking about playing hide and seek with armed peasants in the sand. Not really a war.

It boils down to politics and money. The military gets X dollars from the federal coffers. Military spends say... 98% of the budget, coming 2% underbudget. Good thing, right? Now the military has a 2% surplus in the bank for the WTFBBQ moments, right?

Nope. Congress goes, "Well hey, since you don't need this money, we can give it to the FBI or CIA, etc etc."

Come next budgetary meeting, congress goes, "Well since you only needed 98% of your budget last time, can't you make do with only 98% of your budget this time?"

... yeah, it's stupid but that's how it basically boils down to...
