Ranges Ban Black Rifles?

I'm not sure exactly how much a janitor in Edmonton makes these days, but I'm guessing it's somewhere in the $25,000-30,000 range. If you have 1500 members, that's only an additional $17-20 per person per year. Might be worth considering.

This works great, and I use it all the time to pick up after my Torkarev. It misses a few but I see them and pick them up by hand. Maybe a suggestion to get workers to the range cleanup days or whatever you have is to offer some sort of membership credit, like get next year for free if you volunteer so many hours. I am not sure if that would work, but it is worth a shot.

I didn't read any of the posts yet, but if it happens fairly often, you could do investigative work and find the culprit(s) easily by keeping daily records of the 7.62x39 found and crosschecking that result with members who visited that day: slowly eliminate names until you find a common thread.

That is, of course, if you really want to find the guilty party.
 
I was out at SPFGA the other night; I fired about 200 Rds of 7.62x39, out of my CZ 58, and picked up all of my casings. The problem there was at the pistol range, where my wife and I fired about 400 Rds of 9mm, there was tonnes of brass. Mostly .45 and .22LR, we picked up a lot more then just our 9mm. I think its time to find another range to go to. Black rifles are not welcome there, with all the old school guys. I’m in the army so I love shooting those types of firearms. Any suggestion where to go shoot?
 
Rockenrod: Ya SPFGA doesn't appeal to me either and is why I decided to eliminate them from my list. As for suggestions I'd say Genesse (CHAS) or SpruceGrove (so quick to get there from North Edmonton)
 
well if they take that away im not joining there simple as that. if they want to dictate who can shoot what it aint worth it.

theres better energy spent by putting a 3 inch deep by 3 foot wide concete pit in front of the benchs. then just sweep em into the pit and empty it with a shovel once or twice a year.

at spruce grove range, a broom is provided and u sweep your brass forward away from the shootin positions no big deal. its usually clean when i get there sure theres a few cases on the floor, but i'll help out and clean em up along with my mess. i dont mind walkin on a pile of brass for only 3 steps to get to my target its not like its ankle deep all the way to the end of the 300 yards.

join CHAS and shoot at genesee.I live in North Edmonton..and it takes me an average of 45 to 50 minutes to get to the range..and its every gun friendly there

Sorry for the Hijack.
I live in Fort Saskatchewan, and I’m relatively new to the area. I have no idea how to get to the genesee or spruce grove ranges? Also shot on base when its booked for the gun club. Can I get a guess pass for my wife and I somewhere so we can check them out prior to committing to another membership?

Ideas about banning guns and not being able to let a non-member shoot (they can watch, just not shoot) is the reason SPFGA was happy about getting 5 new members in a year. That range will die out when the old timers pass on.
 
Another idea would be to simply create a "brass catcher" of sorts. Fire off some common differing M43 chambered firearms and watch their patterns of ejection...then create a simple plywood angled "catcher" fixed to the front of the shooting line barrier, that allows the brass to strike it and fall before the feet of the shooters against a "Four by Two slab"

Simple...and you can use old plywood/lumber etc for this

Why should a range accomodate these pigs by giving them a special range area, having someone else pick up after them putting in special brass catchers or forcing all the members to pay extra to hire a janitor because they won't pick up their cartridge casings?

Banning black rifles is equally unacceptable. Why punish the responsible owners?

The answer is simple. Ban the use of steel cased ammo at the range.

Why on earth does it make ANY sense what so ever to ban the use of a particular case type at all?

Here is an odd idea................

Find out who makes the mess and DEAL WITH THEM!

Otherwise you are indeed punishing the innocent.

Steel case ammo does not make you a pig!

Discovering who the pigs are and stopping them is a mug's game. You won't find them without considerable effort on the part of volunteers and even then the pigs probably won't clean up even if you know who they are. I've seen that happen before.

If it's the alternative between banning a type of rifle, a cartridge or the material in a cartridge casing then the later is probably the best option.

If they want to leave brass on the ground then let them. It's pretty rare for brass to be not picked up by someone.
 
The way I learned to shoot was to leave the range in better condition than it was found. That and the Ol' man made sure all the kids were at the monthly work parties first thing Sat. am!


Or no shooting....easy choice

why dont you ban the hunters and the guys who use brass cased ammo then they wont complain about the steel case as they wont be there to complain



better yet ban actually shooting at the range
 
We have problems with the morons that continue to use steel cored and steel jacket bullets on our range. They are the same group by the way. There is little you can do, as they tend to care little for property and they blend in with other shooters pretty well.
We have increased vigilance (ammo inspections), and that is certainly an option for your range. Supervisors can inform the guilty parties of their transgressions and ensure clean up. Alternatively, you can hire a clean up crew to sort out the grounds. Both these options cost money and everyone ends up paying a little more, but that is the nature of being fair to all.
I think you will find that a ban of any type will ultimately need to be enforced and this will cost too.
