Ranges that have added skeet fields or sporting clays, what are your experiences?

I offered to buy a set of machines for them (back when the skeet houses were still there in 2008). I got a hard Pass, they were not interested in any skeet at the club.

I remember shooting skeet at EGC back in 1990-1991 as well as at the Strathcona range. Too bad there is less opportunity. My kid (13) really wants to try it.

What are the logistics of dropping in at the camrose club to shoot skeet? Is this possible?
We allow guests to try the range a couple of times before deciding whether to buy a membership, but they have to contact us in advance, as we have to let them in, past our electric gate.

I don't understand the logic behind not wanting a skeet field. The way I look at it is the more options a club has the more draw it has. If we were to add machines to our skeet field to create a 5-stand we'd attract alot more shooters but the old boys club won't hear of it.

I have always thought variety was a good idea. But there are those that think otherwise.

Exactly! Our job as the executive is to provide the best facility we can for our members, not all members want the same things, but we try and accommodate at least the majority. Unfortunately some clubs end up being run by an executive that promotes certain disciplines, while ignoring other disciplines, because the people that run for the executive only care about certain disciplines.

Sporting clay is the most fun, IMHO. Great with a couple buds. Walk laugh and shoot. With all the ranges there must be a friendly atmosphere. Who needs an old grouch #####ing about you gun ammo attire or anything else. No need to put someone down, or talk behind there back. We’re there for fun. That said I pick skeet over trap most times but do like trap as well.

we added 5 stand to our 2 trap club and it has taken off like wild fire , lots of trap shooters shooting both and lots of new guys coming to shoot just 5 stands

And yet I have never seen the old grouches #####ing at the club where you live, and having run the fields for the past several years, I would see if it it happens. We have an older average age, but the most friendly club that I have seen.
