I suspect there will be a lot of new people who get interested in guns, but then realise the licence process is expensive and the limitations on shooting are too much. A lot of city dwellers have very few options for shooting, apart from driving a long way outside of city limits, finding crown land, and then making sure all the dog walkers and hikers are nowhere nearby before setting up a makeshift range. They'll realise shooting at trees and cans is fun, but then grow tired of it and decide they want to hunt. Again the permit process for hunting takes time and money.
