Rant: RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Primer catcher

On the advice of fellow CGNers, I purchased and am now the proud owner of an RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme reloading press and I must admit that is is well made, nuke proof, and very smooth to operate. OTOH, why did RCBS hire a 5 year old child (or so it seems) to design their primer catcher? That contraption is so small and so ill conceived that it is almost impossible not to spill its contents on the floor, when emptying it.

I saw some aftermarket alternatives, but the ones I have seen thus far charge an arm and a leg to ship to Canada.

Is there an easy and relatively inexpensive fix?

I have the Frankford Arsenal Hand held de-primer. Dumps all the primer into this little container.

works great. and keeps the rock chucker clean.

that is the other thing I don't like using the press to deprime. the primer dust gets on everything and you have to clean it all the time.

a vacuum works good for cleaning too...

That's why I went with LEE

sand / file the plastic so it doesn't catch when you slide out the cross bar to empty it. Takes very little to hold it on the press.

I use a Dollar store Velcro strap to hold mine on. But the vacuum works best.

Absolutely!

Also the FA Hand de primer is great for building up hand strength and you can do it while watching TV etc.

And as the poster notes the best thing is that it is easy to go through hundreds without mess on the press!

Unless you're using a HEPA filter in your vacuum, I'd be concerned about the amount of potential lead and carbon dust you're blowing around your loading room from the vacuum exhaust.

I bought a special tool to pick up primers. It's a universal fit, works with every press. I'll see if I can find some pics.

Here it is. This is the only primer catcher I've used that never fails, somehow.

3d printed catchers work wonders. Buy one on ebay. it is a one time cost that will last you a lifetime.

If it makes you feel any better, the primer catcher for the partner press is terrible too.

I use a piece of foam and the bottom section of a Tim Hortons cup.
