Rant

Unfortunately I have seen the same thing up caribou hunting. At least myself didnt see as many over the years you have, but none the less, animals left there cuz people have the mentallity that, if I drive that far and spend that much, Im gonna shoot a monster. If its not what they want when they walk up to it, then they leave and move on to another animal. How hard can it be when it is literally pick the one you want and take that animal. Irritating none the less. Whats more unfortunate, is as soon as you mentioned all the cutbacks on the authorities, what they will do is each year NOT buy a tag, go out hunting, then if they harvest a decent animal, then they will buy a tag. Even if thats possible in ur area. Im pretty sure here in Ontario you can buy a buck tag right up until the end of December when the season ends.

This all makes me depressed about the ethics of most hunters. Way too many of us treat CO's like the enemy, and don't report violators even when it can make a big difference. The SK government gutted the environment department a few years ago and nobody said a word in public. We are our own worst enemies. I try to teach a few new hunters each year, and emphasize ethics above all. But I have to say the pursuit of "trophies" has gotten out of hand. I really don't like hunters talking about the "big one" any more, it just seems to lead to bad forms of competitiveness and lapses in ethics.

Good on you Jayph for standing up to those A-holes in the coffee shop, its pretty bad when you see that many wasted deer in a season.
I have property 1.5 hours from my place and can't always be there 24/7 but often wonder & worry what is happening in my absence.
In the 2 years of owning the property I have found the remains of a 5x5 bull elk which was probably shot on the road crossed the swamp and bedded down just inside the bush and expired.Hope I never get to experience whats happening in your neck of the woods.

i like in rosetown sk. zone 29 which the government foolisshly opened up a cwd hunt. i have never seen so many unfamilar vehicles. and anyone i have has been from the city hunting on land they have no permission on. there is a lack of co's we all need to contact our govt and try to get more officers to save our resource.
